It’s been suggested that he has gone with Trippier LB of a 4….Mings gets the nod. As expected. Grealish out for Sterling. 4-3-3 with Rice, Phillips and Mount. Foden also in.
 
Well if Sterling is starting I hope he has an exceptional game, he owes himself that and Southgate for the continuing faith he has in him. Not sure why Trippier is starting on the left, Is there some issues with Chilwell and Shaw?

It’s a puzzling one with Trippier. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with either LB’s. GS obviously really trusts him.
 
The only thing I can think is he wants experience in the back line, maybe due to his lack of faith in Mings?
 
Sancho and Chilwell are injured right? Surely you don’t name 2 keepers on the bench and leave them out.
 
I thought the whole squad could be named substitute in major tournaments? If some are missing, they must not be fit enough. It’s a kick in the teeth for Shaw if he knows Chilwell is injured and still can’t get in.
 
Unless it's injury related starting Trippier at left back is a strange choice. Otherwise no real surprise from Southgate.
 
I don’t mind Sterling playing ahead of Grealish because I think we need some pace when Kane drops deep. Grealish is an exciting player and I’m sure he’ll play his part in the tournament anyway.

that said, Most of the country seem to want him to start and Foden too, So I think there’s pressure on Sterling to put in a good performance today after being selected.

Not sure why we have put a Trippier at left back when we have some good left backs available. All I can think is that he is good at set pieces but is that worth putting someone in a position they don’t often play unless it’s necessary?

hope Mings plays well. He looked a bit shaky in the friendlies but I don’t think there’s much in it when it comes to him and the other options, so can’t really complain.

Southgate’s team very predictable, cautious don’t lose tactics for me. Grealish and Bellingham should be starting for Fidel or mount and definitely Phillips 🤣. I fear we won’t get out of our own half as Croatia dominate the ball. Southgate is taking us nowhere….

Mount has been one of the best English players this season, he should be in every starting line-up.

If we do win, I expect you'll be nowhere to be seen, waiting for the next opportunity to have a whinge.

Of that there is no doubt however I suspect I won’t be…..and we’ll be discussing how the game passed us by as we ran around chasing an average Croatia side made to look better by a poor England manager
