England v Croatia

I think that the Sterling/Foden thing is a good choice they know each other's games well and are both capable of the sublime. Granted Sterling hasn't had a great season but if the alternative is Grealish let's not forget that he has only just returned from injury and perhaps isn't as sharp as he might be. I think Trippier at LB gives more experience particularly alongside Mings.

Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Lots of energy but I’m worried about the creative side especially in transition— I think I would have gone with Chilwell as he can get back quicker (over Tripp’s) and I would have left Stirling out and put in Sancho who is far more effective on the right side — although Grealish is great force off the bench and I’m sure he’ll have to be used if we’re losing.

GS has pretty much said this. Trippier for experience and his vocal leadership. Could be key for keeping Mings alert. He’s also confirmed he’s keeping faith with a side which has done very well for him in qualifying. Chilwell not in squad and is not injured. Along with Sancho. Subs will be key in this heat.

Did davor sukar play for Croatia? He scored one of the coolest goals I have ever seen at a finals. Don't remember if it was the euros or the wc.

Bellingham is a kid and Grealish is difficult to accommodate unless you build your team around him. I'm happy with Sterling and Foden in this game...
I'm sure Grealish will be utilised, probs from the bench first change...

Neither Sancho or Chilwell are injured apparently. That is absolutely baffling.
Sancho can't really complain, he hasn't been a regular for england and hasn't often delivered, although he's done well in his couple of games.

Chilwell maybe has a bigger claim, but Trippier is experienced, it might be a decision for experience for the first match.

I know Sterling hasn't had a good 3 months, however, without him there is too much emphasis on Kane for goals he's the only person with a proven long term goal record and with England goals. The choice of Grelaish vs Sterling is a pure choice of Pace Vs skill. Croatia's back line isn't quick, so I can see the logic.

I've seen a few complaints about two defensive midfielders....this is Croatia, a team that relies on their central midfield. This is exactly the game to do have a dedicated CDM to mark Modric, sacrifice our worst player in Philips for their best player in Modric. Rice is more than a CDM, he can get his head up and play. But he'll do enough dirty work to let Mount get between the lines and create.

Really?
My mistake then.

Yeah.

Squads for UEFA EURO 2020 will be increased from 23 players to 26 following a decision by the UEFA Executive Committee.

To mitigate the risks of teams facing a shortage of available players due to possible positive COVID-19 tests and subsequent quarantine measures, it has been decided to exceptionally increase the squads for all participating teams.

However, 23 players will remain the maximum number permitted for each individual match (in accordance with Law 3 of the IFAB Laws of the Game permitting a maximum of 12 substitutes to be named for A-national team matches), including three goalkeepers.

Strange atmosphere. It's hardly 'rocking'.

They could take a few tips from the cricket. You'd think you'd be pretty vocal after months of no football.
