England v Croatia

Sterling is a brilliant player. He may have been in and out of the city side recently but there's no shame in that. He's a very clever and composed player with good feet.
 
Thought England were solid and did the job and got the points.

Interesting to see how Croatia get on against the other sides, thought when they allowed the ball they didn’t really do anything with it. Without a focal point in Mandzukic up front to pivot the attack round they might struggle.

I don’t think we beat a poor side today. I think they’ll beat Scotland comfortably. Tomorrow’s game will be very interesting.
 
They keep saying you can't press for 90 minutes. You don't have to. We have five subs. We can take off our entire forward line. Five subs is a massive change in a tournament. Lots of games close together plus extra time. 5 subs allows you to keep your team fresh.

Better team for the entire match, Croatia barely threatening.

Ex Footy Legs put all of his credibility (not much admittedly) on the line before we even named our first selection, then crashed and burned as Gareth Southgate achieved something no England manager in history did previously.

I very much doubt we’ll hear or see him again in these parts.

I don’t think they were poor, just lacking in ideas. I’m interested to see how they get on against the other teams just to see if this was down to how well England played to stifle them, or wether they do actually just lack a cutting edge.

I think it was a good England performance, but Croatia don't have the pace and physical strength that they had four years ago. It's the knock out games that really show up the better teams.

Both different teams to 4 years ago. An ageing Croatia and an England team with bags of talent. Take nothing away from England though, if that was game 2-3 I. The group that’s 2-3 nil for me
