England EUROS squad

Sterling is one of Southgate's golden boys and no matter how poor is form is, and it's been poor for sometime now, he's going to be one of the first names on the team sheet.
Anyone who uses Sterling as a stick with which to beat Southgate surely has an agenda against the manager, player or both. He's a top class player who has been excellent for Man City and England for 2-3 years, but hasn't been at his best for a few months.

Oh wind your neck in. Why must it be an agenda rather than a mere observation about his form? He's been poor at club level all season, in fact ever since he fluffed those chances against Lyon last season in the CL he's not been the same player since. And for England he's been out of sorts for around about the same time too. It's been far longer than a few months.

There are a lot of people out there who can't wait to have a go at Southgate unfortunately, Southgate has been absolutely superb for England, dragged us out of the 1970s and made us often a pleasure to watch

I think Southgate will be (rightly) revered as a modernising force, as a new broom in years to come. Right now I think the extra picks have done him a massive favour

I keep changing my mind with regards to the team. I'd be tempted to go with a midfield of Rice, Foden, Mount and then have Sancho and Rashford either side of Kane, but Foden is playing so well wide left for Man City, so I'm tempted to say we should go with Foden and Sancho either side of Kane.

Problem we've got is I feel midfield is a weak area for us. We could go with Rice, Mount and Bellingham I guess.

I don’t know how any one could leave Foden out. He should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Agreed but it wouldn't be ridiculous to claim that Mount should be first name on the teamsheet.......and you could make a claim that at 100% fit Grealish should be first name on the team sheet, and you could argue Declan Rice is a must and you can also argue that Sancho has been so good for Dortmund that he has to be played every game. With Leicester top 3 you can also argue a case for Madison and possibly Harvey Barnes in the squad. Whatever team and squad he picks someone will complain.

The longer I read your post the more I disagreed with it. Foden is a must. I’d find a place for Grealish but if you’ve got Foden, Grealish isn’t the first name on the team sheet (that’s probably Kane in all honesty). Maddison, Sancho and Harvey Barnes are all peripheral players.

I said you could make a claim. If you think that it's impossible to make a claim that 100% fit Grealish should be first name on the sheet then I despair. There will be plenty of Villa fans who have watched him develop over the past x years into a brilliant player. I'm not saying that I claim he should be first on the team sheet, but people have battered Southgate for not selecting him, the media was absolutely full of it for 6 months before Southgate finally selected him. The proof is out there already that some people do think he is a must. I'd bet every Dortmund fan and a lot of British ones would agree on Sancho too. Yes Maddison and Barnes are periphery but there will be plenty of fans who feel they must be in the squad and will complain if they are not and we fail to win.

I'd completely forgotten about Greenwood at the start of this thread. It shows how many options England have at the moment.

Its ridiculous. Our options are scarily good in forward areas. The only reason I say that about Greenwood is on the right side either foot he is as good as finisher as there is. He would be one to come on and change games for me. I would Defiently find a place for him in a 26 man squad.

Agree with all that.

It's trending on Twitter than Alexander-Arnold will not be in the European Championship squad!

David Ornstein has mentioned it on The Athletic.

Incredible if it's true.

He's arguably been Liverpool's best and most important player in these last few weeks.

He's massively stepped it up.

The games away to Arsenal and Utd show this. He's been brilliant.

Should be easy in that 26 man squad IMO

It seems it'll be Walker, Trippier and probably James. All quality players but it's a strange one not to take the best English right-back for the last three seasons.

The best attacking Enlgish RB, he definitely isn't the best defensive one, and if he wants defenders who can defend you can understand why he won't be going. It might also be an attitude issue

Nothing to do with attitude according to the Athletic. If Southgate wants defensive full-backs it's also strange Wan-Bissaka isn't even considered. He has the best defensive ability by a long way.
