Does Carrick get an easy ride?

People can say things aren't clicking, we aren't playing fast enough etc but he is the manager them issues have been around for 2 years, it will click and we will go on a run but it's never a sustained challenge I like the bloke but he reminds me of Southgate especially when it comes to subs and we will never get over the line the way we are going

We're too slow and ponderous, allowing the opposition time to get into shape and deny the space. I've watched other championship teams this season and none of them play at the slow tempo we do. We've got pace to burn but we hardly get a chance to use it.

Move the ball quicker, stop passing it around at the back so much and get it forward quicker and more often, constantly hit the flanks as that opens the space and gives the opposition more to think about, try a lot more over the top - Lattes got the pace, and for his stature is good at winning headers for knock-ons etc. Mix it up and play 'uglier' football - save the fancy stuff for when we're ever 2-0 up.

No.

He's doing a great job. the fact that questions like this pop up after a disappointing result say more about the person raising the issue than the issue.

We have started this season much better than last. We have recruited well and have a powerful bench to call upon and some talented youngsters. The medium term "health" of the club is better than it has been probably since relegation and that is down to Gibson, Scott, Bausor and Carrick. But most importantly how they combine.

If it all turns to shizz and we end up in danger of relegation then we can legitimately question the management team and how the individuals within that team affect the performances we see. Until then just try to enjoy the ride.

It feels like we are waiting for things to click and have a settled side where everyone is in the team on merit. Hopefully then we can go on a bit of a run and winning 3 or 4 games in a row in this league sees you shoot up the table.

I do agree with much of what you've posted there, but I don't think being in danger of relegation is an appropriate measure.
The club have a very large squad, have retained all key players and signed 8 more for nett c£15m. Carrick will be expected to get this squad into the play offs as an absolute minimum.

He probably will do, but if he doesn't this season then in my view he will have failed, having been given the tools.

We improve the decision making in the final third and start taking chances and I can almost guarantee noone will talk about "slow ponderous football" or whatever.

In every match this season we've had more shots than the opposition, more big chances and more touches in the opposition box. Often by a fairly big margin too.

Not bad for a side with the limited attacking intent some seem to have convinced themselves we now have under Carrick.

That's not to say we shouldn't be doing better or playing with a higher tempo at times. But some of the stuff some are coming out with is laughable.

We've won all 7 games this season (including the 2 cup games) on xG. I know people have their opinions on whether that is a load of rubbish or not but it's clearly one of the reasons why Carrick is pretty happy / doesn't make many changes early in-game / the bookies have us still one of the favourites.

Lack of aggression is the missing ingredient. Imagine man utd with two caricks instead of keane and Carrick thats where we're at.

I think this xG obsession is shown as rather flawed by Middlesbrough 0 Stoke City 5.

One point off the play offs, been the best team in every game this season, made good signings, don’t panic Mr Mainwiring!

Ayling has agression
Clarke has agression
Burgzorg has aggression

I don’t think you need much of that tbh if your side has great technical ability.. we just didn’t seem to show that gulf yesterday.. maybe we don’t have it?!?

. Nothing in the middle of the park then plus Bergzorg is dreadful. I think you need agression plus technical ability in this league. I think we are at a bit of a cross roads with carrick can he get us back on track at the moment we seem to be turning into a nice but soft passing side very much like Swansea have been for seasons

Disagree. Aggression compensates for lack of ability and talent. A modern Man Utd would probably not have a player like Keane but yeah, two Carricks. Look at City and Arsenal, no midfield "destroyer", in fact I can't think of a team in the PL with a player like that (doesn't mean there isn't one)

We’re one point off 6th with 41 games to go. The season is panning out exactly as I expected by mid-September. We’ll float around between 5th and 12th for most of it.

Anyone predicting top 2 for us this season was doing so out of blind optimism over anything else. 6 of the 9 clubs above us so far are better resourced clubs. In my opinion we never had a cat in hells chance of top 2 and I’m not remotely worried about our season so far.

He’s Paulo Wanchope.. he needs to be played and used as such.

Latte and Conway look like very similar players.. they both excel in the middle playing deep.

I’m sure with a few tweaks here and there we will start to fly.

Micah Hamilton is the most interesting to me.. he very much looks like a central midfielder to be.. a very good one too.

I love his passing.. he does very basic things very well.

Lots of positive things to look forward to!

Micah in midfield.. maybe?
Doak and Burgzorg in a front three coming off the bench.. fast, direct & unpredictable
McGree coming back
Fords back in training.

This is the most confident I’ve been in years with the squad we’ve now got. Ok, there are weaknesses. A few players aren’t good enough (in my opinion). But I can’t - in nearly 50 years - remember us playing this style of football and dominating every single game like we have this season. We’re a good watch (mostly). And I wouldn’t say we’re playing particularly well.

It will click, I’m sure of it. We do need to play a little faster. But we’ve also had absolutely no luck.

Sooner or later we’ll stop having ridiculous injuries. We’ll stop missing sitters and giving away stupid goals. A deflected shot or ricochet will fall to one of our players for once. Seriously can’t remember the last time this happened.

A keeper will play against us and make a mistake. How is it possible that keepers can have absolute howlers the week before, but play like Gordon Banks at his best as soon as they play us? Keepers in our league let balls through their legs every week, or play stupid passes straight to a striker. Not against us though. It will change.

Player for player we are among the best in the division. Difficult to challenge the recently relegated teams over a season with their budgets, but we won’t be far away. MC has been here a while now and seems to have a happy dressing room. I think we’ll get into the playoffs barring bad luck.

The only criticism I’ve got with MC is the substitutions. Too little too late, every game. We’ve finally got a strong bench, so use it.

But overall, we’re comfortably better than last year - so I’m happy enough with that.

I think it’s a bit harsh calling bergzorg dreadful. He’s a player we signed for £500k. He will do a job here and there for us. But he certainly isn’t dreadful.

Agree with Hamilton theres clearly bags of ability, i thought he was going to be a raw pacey winger like doak but he does look more of midfield play maker maybe he could make a good no10

We know he makes mistakes; everyone does.

Do I think he'll perform better if those mistakes are discussed ad infinitum on here? No. No manager takes tips from a message board

Not many of us think it's time for MC to go; I just don't see much point in banging on about mistakes unless you think we've reached that point.
