Does Carrick get an easy ride?

Hold your fire, this isn’t a Carrick out post. But after a somewhat underwhelming start to the season it made me think, he seems to get a pretty easy ride from fans and press alike. He’s clearly a very nice guy, who’s had a very successful playing career and I wonder how much slack that is allowing him. The club appears to have moved into a more structured direction under Kieran Scott and Gibson has arguably started to release the purse strings a little, yet we are starting to see worrying little patterns under his stewardship. Too many easy points dropped are costing us and letting teams get away, not sure other managers would get the same grace.

No I just think Gibson and Scott know how Carrick wants to play and what the team can be capable of under him. We just aren’t moving the ball around fast enough and making way too many mistakes in possession. Sloppy passing, shocking crossing and bad decision making is costing us big time in my opinion. I’m hoping those things will iron them selves out over the next 5 games and we’ll hit a run of form.

W2 D2 L1 isn’t a terrible start to the season but we should have more points. Most teams are probably saying that too though.

Why? His in game management hasn’t changed one bit since Danks left so why are you concerned.
The forwards are not playing as a cohesive unit yes its early days. The glaring left sided problem where all goals against seem to originate. The late subs ffs jones was clearly injured yesterday and it took 10 minutes before it was recognised and he was replaced. Last season he would be constantly discussing tatics with danks on the bench who is he talking to now woodgate

I think when all the new signings start to gel properly, get to know each other better, we should start to see better results. I think its early days but we are playing well, thats a positive.

I think that post follows the same theme of this opening post, people giving Carrick an easier ride than someone else.
How long are you prepared to wait for us to click ?
10 games ?
15 games ?
20 games ?

Could be too late for the automatic places and our style of play doesn’t lend itself well to the playoffs style of blood and thunder football 🤷‍♂️

There has been no blood and thunder football at the Riverside for ages. Just slow build up and sloppy passing.

I agree he probably does get an easier ride. But i think (hope) results will start to come. I think if this is still happening after 15 games then we can forget promotion, which will be classed as a failure. (Certainly if we don’t make the playoffs). Then questions will have to be asked as this is his squad now. But i don't believe we need to panic just yet.

I think it’s interesting that a teams essence of play often reflects that of the managers personality.

I really like Carrick and in no way would I want a change of management for the foreseeable.

He’s overseen an evolution of style of play that I largely like.

But I do worry about a lack of intensity at times and certainly ruthlessness. Traits that you could argue come across in his interviews. Very calm, maybe too calm.

Hopefully we can improve on these aspects, stay free of injury to key players and start picking up the points that our performances deserve.

As an aside of sorts I do wonder how much stick Stan Anderson would have got if social media had been around in those days. Letters to the gazette were expressing frustration at the constant inconsistency of performances would no doubt have been amplified 10 fold.

Anyway he's getting an”easy ride” because of the football style he is trying to play and the results will come as they did last season. Convinced of it.

He's getting an easy ride because he is doing a decent job. Not sure there is any mystery about it.

It’s like the start of the national jostling for position right now. We’ve not yet reached the first furlong.

Win at Sunlun next week (a place where we’ve got a very good record) and we’re in good shape.

The obvious one to liken it to is Southgate with England, I just think it’s all a bit too nice. How many points have we dropped from positions like yesterday, at some point there will be a pivot where he has to start winning those games and I think it’s this season. I really hope he gets it right and gets us up. If I’m being honest I think we will finish around 8th and I don’t think that’s good enough with this squad.

To be fair Danks is a top coach. That's why he's gone to the club he has. Any championship side would miss a coach of that calibre.

Hard to say how much of an impact though and Carrick has always called the shots.
