We’ll be taking a loss on him. He was dreadful today, and to keep him on when we had Howson on the bench was just baffling.
How many people would agree with this now?Link doesn't work but assume it's a highlight reel against Preston. If you read through the thread I'll think you'll find most people are acknowledging that Barlaser does have a good range of passing when given time in games. Preston were awful that night and sat off us all match. Genuinely the worst team I've seen at the Riverside in a long time. Barlaser will flourish in games like that and he's played well in other matches this season when he's been given the same sort of time. He played well against Cardiff when they also sat off us very deep and had a really good second half against Sunderland when they were down to ten men.
However, he is very poor and becomes sloppy when teams press us hard and offers nothing defensively. No physical presence. He has big gaps in his skill sets, He's not a good enough all round midfielder to be playing in this system. There's an argument to be made that he's a good player to have in the squad to use in matches that suit him but if you had him as a first choice CM, the negatives would outweigh the positives.
He's always going to split opinion. He's that sort of player. He shouldn't be playing as many minutes as what he is. He's 4th choice. I'm confident Carrick will drop Barlaser as soon as Hackney is available and if O'Brien was fit, he wouldn't be getting a kick. Wouldn't be surprised if another CM comes in in January and pushes back down the pecking order a bit further.
I don't agree Barlaser played that well in those games you mentioned - just less badlyHow many people would agree with this now?

Well we can disagree on those 3 matches because I actually think he did well in those matches.'Barlaser will flourish in games like that and he's played well in other matches this season when he's been given the same sort of time. He did not play that well in those games - he was just less poor than normal
He'd have to have a shotHe'll score against us next season. Guaranteed.
He'd have to have a shot
He'd have to have a shot
On current form not on the pitch altogether would be preferable, but as I said last week it's not particularly fair to single him out above the equally poor performances of othersWonder if he'd be better off further up the pitch rather than a deep playmaker .. he's got vision and a pass on him so I wonder what he'd be like playing in the 10 role sliding little passes through for ELL .. and when he invariably drops a ******* and gives it away easy it wouldn't be too much of a disaster
