Cole Palmer or Phil Foden?

Palmer -
22 goals, 9 from pens / freekicks = 13 goals from open play

Plus 12 assists = 25 goal involvements

Foden -
19 goals, 2 from pens / free kicks = 17 goals from open play.

Plus 8 assists = 25 goal involvements

So absolutely nothing in it, even with pens out of the equation.

The only difference is Foden was playing with Rodri, Haaland… Palmer was playing with Conor Gallagher, Nicholas Jackson…
Love how you put together pens and free kicks as if they're the same

Last season:
Goals scored:
Foden 19 (0 pens) 19 non pen goals
Palmer 22 (9 pens) 13 non pen goals

Assists:
Foden 8
Palmer 11

Non Pen goals and assists:
Foden - 27
Palmer - 24

There was only 1 person in the league that scored more non pen goals than Foden last season...and that was Haaland.

There were 10 other players who scored more non pen goals than Palmer in the league.

Whatever way you want to spin it, there’s hardly anything in it in terms of open play goal involvements.

One is playing for arguably one of the greatest teams of all time, surrounded by world class players and a world class manager, and the other one dragged a terrible Chelsea side to a 6th place finish

Perhaps we're all overthinking this.... Which is a bit 'Gareth like'..... It might be as simple as..... In Man City's team and how they play.... It's Foden and in this England team it's Palmer..... Horses for courses and all that!

Palmer is special. Easy to say after he’s just banged 4 in, but fair play to those who saw it long before the rest of us 👏
