Cole Palmer or Phil Foden?

No way are people still comparing Foden multiple POTY winner to Palmer

Wow.
I don't think it's as obvious now to be fair. Palmer is looking a phenomenon. Also better in an England shirt.

If Palmer continues at this rate he will be the best English player we have full stop. The confidence he plays with is staggering.

I love Foden as much as anyone but it would be foolish now to at least admit it's not close.

Sorry. But I don’t think it is close.

Foden for England has rarely played in his best position - behind the striker.

Palmer has had a couple of half decent cameos for England, but he rightly shouldn’t be in the team ahead of Saka or Jude.

Palmer still has a long way to go to be compared to Foden. Foden has dragged his team to a league title. He was phenomenal last season and without him, city wouldn’t have got over the line.

Let’s see what Palmer ‘drags’ Chelsea to…

It is close. He's just scored 4 in the first half of a premier league game ffs.

He plays in a worse team than Foden. That is clear. But he is still performing at an outstanding level.

Palmer must start for England now.

It is bordering on delusional to not give Palmer credit for the form he is displaying now. As for dragging teams towards something. His cameos for England nearly dragged us to a Euros win in an under performing side which included Foden.

He's done enough now to warrant a place in the England side and he's also done enough to be considered one of the best players in the premier league alongside Foden.

He really is a joy to watch. The most natural footballer I've seen for a long time.

Foden dragged his team to a title? Howay. That team full of global superstars. Haaland and Rodri are probably the two best players in the world in their positions. Possibly Ederson too.
The rest of the squad are absolutely world class as well. Foden had a very very good season last year and was a big part of their campaign but it's a stretch to say he dragged City to the title. Rodri is more important to them.

I'd argue Cole Palmer dragged Chelsea to more wins than Foden did for City last season.

I'm still on the Foden side of this argument.... just. Because he's performed at the top level for longer and I do genuinely think he's world class but Cole Palmer is closing that gap and also looks a class act. He's that bit younger. Palmer is effecting games more than Foden was 2 years ago and definitely has the potential to be better.

Who is not giving him credit? He’s been brilliant for Chelsea and a great signing.

He still isn’t at Foden’s level. This kid is doing it at the high end of the table and taking his team to trophies. Where was Palmer in the League Cup final last year? FA Cup semi?

And as for starting for England, where are you playing him?

Not a chance he should be ahead of Saka. Saka is arguably the best RW in the world (outside Yamal)

And he’s not anywhere near Jude’s level yet.

And he’s not a LW.

Haaland missed a large chunk of the season last year.

I agree with Rodri though. He’s huge for city too. They will likely struggle this season (in comparison to when Rodri plays) - as was shown yesterday.

Foden has been winning trophies and dragging his teams to trophies for nearly a decade. Not just city - but England teams when he was just a kid.

I'd do what I've always said. Play Jude slightly deeper as he's more than capable and play Palmer 10, Saka right and then probably Grealish or Foden left wing. Grealish looks in better nick right now and carsley seems to like him too.

By the end of the season I think this debate will be even closer. The amount of goals Palmer could end up scoring in this Chelsea team is scary.

Haaland scored 27 goals in 29 starts 👍🏻
But yeah Foden dragged them to the title.

If….thats the big problem. We’ve seen these kids tear it up, then drop off before. There’s also a massive difference between doing it against midtable prem sides and doing it against real in the champs league or Spain in a euros match

He did it against Spain in a euros match to be fair

He had a 5 minute spell where he scored, then was trying to do too much himself and running down blind alleys and making poor decisions
Have no doubt he will be Englands most creative and exciting player at the World Cup. Whoever is in charge needs to get the best out of that squad

I've always said that Foden is a great player to have in a team but he'll never be the main man, the driving force, the player that takes the ball and makes things happen on his own where Palmer is. I think if you put Palmer in any team in the league he'd still score goals where Foden would be ineffective playing alongside poor players.

That doesn't mean that Palmer is the better player of course. Palmer might not do what Pep wants Foden to do, he might not be as disciplined off the ball etc which he gets away with in a team like Chelsea.

Possibly, but he could also get man marked and frustrated. He’s yet to prove it top end for me. Clearly damned good against average prem sides. Failed to score in 8 out of 9 top 8 sides sing last November. They’re the games that turn you from a very good player to a great player. Needs to up his output in those games

Apart from last season arent foden stats a little overstated for someone ‘dragging’ teams to titles

He started 22 games in 22/23

In terms of England I don't think Bellingham, Palmer, Foden and Saka can all play in the same team. We must learn from our mistakes when we had Gerrard, Beckham, Lampard and Scholes, we shouldn't pick the best players and fit square pegs in round holes, pick the best players for a system that works, there's no issue with having Saka or Foden on the bench if it makes the formation and system work, bringing on a fit and fresh Saka in the 60th minute will decimate defenders.

Surely all the best sides have quality replacements on the bench. Fans need to start viewing it as a good thing, not whining that x should be in the team. It’s a failing of English media and fans

Both players are quality and will have off-days just like any top player does. England are lucky to have them.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.
