Cole Palmer or Phil Foden?

Foden > Palmer
Saka > Palmer

So unless he can play left he isn't getting an England game
This is correct.

If you take away Palmer's penalties this season, he isn't even Chelsea's top scorer.

Those penalty goals have clouded a lot of peoples judgment on Palmer.

Scoring penalties shouldn't be taken for granted, but they shouldn't be used to judge a players performance over a season.

He is definitely deserving of a place in the England squad, but he shouldn't be even close to starting for England, assuming we have a fully fit squad.

Pick the players to play in their natural positions, with options from the bench if things need changing.

England teams in the past and present, try to accommodate players by playing some of them in an unnatural position.
Gerard... Lampard,,,typical examples, both great players for their clubs, but could not play together, both wanted to play in the same areas, and yet they were part of the golden generation, and were picked in the same team regularly, and it never worked.
Bellingham Foden must start, then it's a question of who else?
We will have good options from the bench, it's not the Midfield/Attack that bothers me, it's our defence :(

I actually think it's much more of a relevant question now than it was when the thread was first created. I'd still go Foden but it's close as to who's been better this season, especially as Palmer has been playing in a (relatively) struggling side.

Palmer has had a great season and deserves to be lauded.

But the comparison to Foden is absolutely laughable.

Palmer isn't anywhere near the level of Foden and isn't close to him.

Can Palmer reach the current heights Foden is at? Quite possibly.

But Foden is still improving and getting better, so Palmer will have to improve hugely to get close to Foden.

Foden will start for England in the summer - rightly so. Palmer will be on the bench - rightly so.

At the time of making this thread and for the last few seasons I always thought Foden had the talent but had shackles on his feet, in the last 3 or 4 months in particular he's definitely gone on another level.

Foden and Palmer literally are two different types of players in terms of overall ability. Foden is more of a floating midfielder who can pick a long or short pass or act as a midfielder or even as a second striker. Palmer is basically striker whose game is based on collecting a pass and making things happen from a goal scoring situation. Ok he can compliment the midfield and play either wing but he also has less experience.

I will say this about Palmer however his ball control skills are an enormous asset to his game as he can often draw fouls or leave defenders for dead when he goes one-on-one.

Currently Foden is a more complete player than Palmer. I thought Foden had a better game today mostly because he had a more central role.

There is no doubt foden has struggled in this tournament , as have others . Palmer has made an impact but over a shorter period so it’s quite hard to gauge . Just on this tournament for me I’d have palmer in from the start as foden has had 5 starts and maybe only really made an impression in one

I think if you give Palmer the game time and opportunities at City that Foden has had, Palmer would perform roughly the same. Put Foden in that Chelsea side and he wouldn’t do half of what Palmer did.

Palmer to me always looks more threatening and capable of making things happen.
