Chuba Gone - Confirmed

I have to say that I am a little disappointed with the fee. I do think its a bit on the light side. I wonder if it was made clear that he didnt want to stay?
I'm convinced that he will have told the club that he won't sign a new contract much earlier than was disclosed.

Glad it's done and dusted now to be honest but I'm allowing myself to be slightly upset by this one as I loved the way he played last season never mind his goals!

He's out of contract in the summer and could have signed then for free. They've basically paid €12m to get him one year earlier. I think that's an incredible deal for us.

Good luck Chuba. I'm pleased he's left Boro on a high after a fabulous last season. I wish him all the best in Amsterdam. Nobody can deny a move to a club like Ajax. Boro get funds to hopefully reinvest and Chuba plays for one of the most renowed clubs in Europe. Fair deal.

Pretty classy message.
Honestly, sad he's leaving, especially as he's my son's favourite player. First it was Payero, then Tav, now Akpom. Every time he gets a new favourite player, they end up leaving! Crooks is his favourite after Akpom, watch him go to QPR as part of a deal for Willock!

But Akpom deserves the move and it's worked out best for everyone involved, in my opinion. Hopefully we replace his goals, and he goes on to have a successful career at Ajax.

Sad to see him leave but as soon as it became apparent he wasn't signing a new deal I said that he needed to be sold.

Bit of a shame that it's dragged on as it has but hopefully we can still use some of the money to bring in a bit of quality before the window closes.

I make the quoted fee £10.52m at current conversion rate, plus the add-ons.

We'd all have liked more; whatever we got, some would say "it should be more". However, if no one is prepared to offer more (Lens of Sheff Utd could have come in with a higher bid if they wanted), it's a choice between accepting that offer and letting him go at the end of the season; the fantasy £15m+ offer wasn't on the table.

Maybe we could have played brinkmanship and left it to the last day of the window to see if Ajax would pay a bit more, but there's no guarantee they would, and we'd have less to for new recruits.

Would anyone use, given the chance, pay say, £8million to loan Chuba back for 1 season? I don't think many would. As it stands, keeping him would be comparable to paying £10.5 million (and add ons) for one season.

Does my head in the undisclosed fee stuff. Just tell us ffs
Why would they? take the Caciedo and mcallister fees for instance. I know those fees have been revealed but what advantage is that to brighton other than appeasing their fans. Eveverybody elso now knows they are cash rich and can add another few million on to their original asking price if Brighton come in for them.
