Chuba Gone - Confirmed

Sadly after last season he was too hot to hold on to. Ah well he leaves us with memories of a classy player who graced the shirt and left for higher things.

Good luck to you Chuba, we'll be watching you tear up the Eredivisie I'm sure.

Fantastic season Chuba, thanks for the very special memories, last season under Carrick we played some unbelievable football at times, your goals were just great to watch.
Thanks for the way you conducted yourself, played with a smile and your rapoure with the fans.
Inspirational player, you will be sadly missed but enjoy a wonderful career at Ajax but always think fondly of the Mighty Boro

Talking to a lad from work today about Chuba last season.. I said it’s the greatest I’ve seen ever from a Boro player (I’m 32).. he compared it to Mersons season which I can’t remember much

Honestly, sad he's leaving, especially as he's my son's favourite player. First it was Payero, then Tav, now Akpom. Every time he gets a new favourite player, they end up leaving! Crooks is his favourite after Akpom, watch him go to QPR as part of a deal for Willock!

But Akpom deserves the move and it's worked out best for everyone involved, in my opinion. Hopefully we replace his goals, and he goes on to have a successful career at Ajax.
Feel your pain in this one. My 8 year old was buzzing to hear that the other deal fell through for him. I didn't have the heart to tell him that Ajax were ready to jump in immediately.

Good second favourite was Giles and he was looking out for him in MOTD😂

I hope he does well. Seems an all round good guy. The fee received is nothing in modern football, look at Brighton just getting over 10x that. Guess it shows the gulf between the Championship and Premier League.

Personally, I reckon those talking about a replacement coming in will be disappointed, think they are already here (Rogers/Gilbert). This fee will be used to cover running losses. I suppose if we are looking likely at Christmas (unlikely at this early stage) Gibson might sanction some exciting loans?

Yes it was some season. For a season of individual brilliance the Merson comparison is a good shout. Also Juninho in 96/97 although sadly we got relegated and lost in both cup finals. He still managed to get PL player of the season though which was remarkable given the fact we went down. Shows just how good he was that year.

He's out of contract in the summer and could have signed then for free. They've basically paid €12m to get him one year earlier. I think that's an incredible deal for us.

I wouldn't describe £10.5 million plus add ons as incredible. Not for the Championship player of the season who scored more league goals in a season for us than any other Boro striker for as long as I can remember. He was always going to be in demand after how good he was last season. Good luck to us finding another number 10 who will bag almost 30 goals in a season. I can't help but feel it's another huge step backwards from the club.

Good luck to Chuba though, seems a top lad.

At Championship / 1st division level it's the best i've seen since Merson. Magic man edges it for me given we got over the line that season.

Premier League level, I'd have to say seasons from the likes of Boateng, Zenden, Viduka, Southgate, Juninho have to trump it given the level they were playing at.

Good luck to him, showed a lot of character last season to establish himself and the return was something we probably won't see again for another 20 years

This reallyl is a disaster. I can only hope the club did its hardest to keep him. We have had so few 20+ a season scorers in recent years we needed to keep hold of him. Gutted.

Undisclosed and far from transparent. I wonder what our best offer to Chuba to extend his stay was, or if we even made one.

There will have to be a "Choo🚂 Choo🚂 Watch" with every =match day thread (y)

Done us proud - more than any other player in the last ten years or more [with a few exceptions: Leadbitter / Friend].
No striker we`ve signed since Ravanelli has come anywhere near him.

Merson stood out more than Chuba, but Chuba just kept scoring last season.

Merson was a current England International and earned more than Bergkemp was earning @ Arsenal in the same season. In today's money Merson was probably earning £120k/week. After one and a tiny bit of the next season, he said he was homesick and was sold to Villa. Gibson must have been subsidising the Club to a large degree

Merson had had problem with drugs and gambling and the drugs was public before we signed him, but he still managed to perform well in the Premier League/Div 1 for Arsenal and England during the early to late 1990s winning cups and the old Division1. Chuba so far has had one excellent season in the Championship.
