Changes at Newcastle since Saudi takeover

The Abu Dhabi lot of City have poured millions into the area around the Etihad developing it for City ......but have moved into resi development and the new Co-op Arena. Dubious land deals with Mcr Council, but ......

Can see the Saudis doing similar in Newcastle - but not sure if they would be able to fund hospitals or the airport? Could build a fooking huge extension to the old Vickers works, manufacturer their own weapons to use against Yemen. Win/win eh? Thousands of jobs for desperate thick Geordies.
See Wilton for the way it happens

I like Howe, comes across as a decent fella.....but he's not big enough. Results continue as they are, and if they are not top 4 by Xmas, can see him getting summoned to a "meeting".......

I'm hoping when he's sacked they go full " biggest name possible" and end up in a perrenial hire and fire scenario, looking for the new Pep, Fergie etc.
I dont like howe always thought he comes across as a smug ****

He seems to have mellowed since leaving Bournemouth - there he did come across as a smug get, bigger than the club.

But at Newcastle he's shown none of this, almost looks like he's accepting he's a little fish in a big pond, there until a bigger name is brought in.

In other words, you don't like Newcastle but you're not giving up what you do like. Enough said.
Notwithstanding the fact that F1 are not owned by PIF/MBS like Newcastle United clearly are...

I watch WWE. WWE has a contract with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia/PIF to put on shows there. I refuse point blank to watch these shows, but they are included in my WWE Network subscription.

There is no way to not pay for these shows, but I still watch all other WWE programming.

I understand Newcastle fans being excited about the investment, the prospect of success on the pitch etc and they do have the arguments of they're not the only ones being bankrolled by criminals and of course they don't have control over who owns the club.

What I struggle to understand more and find morally repugnant is the apparent hero worship and idolisation of their new owners. It is frankly pathetic. Those who are like that have absolutely sold their souls.

I don't think it's terrible to have an attitude along the lines of "it's always been my club, I'm still going to support them and enjoy any success. But I'm still very uncomfortable with the money is coming from".

But I've not heard many criticise their owners at all. Quite the opposite. Not a good look at all for Geordie nation. Shameful.

It’ll happen more now they are throwing money at their own league. Jordan Henderson is the first to allude to not disrespecting their culture.

England and Europe in general will continue to not mention the extreme form of Islam followed by The House of Saud. The Kingdom itself was forced on everyone else in Arabia. The Saud’s won a long and bloody battle against others and then got lucky with the discovery of billions of barrels of oil.

Nuance has never been a particularly Geordie trait.

I met two Toon fans long back, who said they wanted success but werent happy the club being built on "blood money".
What can they do? Saudi Arabia is the British Governments closest ally in the middle east, the biggest receiver of British Arms exports, with senior British Officers embedded in the military command in Riyadh. The Football establishment arent going to cause an upset in the cosy relationship.

Boycott the club?

Realise that's a bit idealistic for a lot of people mind. At least they recognise it is blood money and aren't running around excited with tea towels on their heads etc like many of their fellow supporters.

What disgusts me most about Newcastle fans now is that there’s a general left leaning fan population that have spent years questioning the ethics of Mike Ashley and his business practices yet now, seem to have no issue at all with the ethics or lack of, of Saudi ownership. One of my Geordie mates argues that the Saudi royal family is just like our own and that we have also been brutal in UK, so we should be positively supporting Saudi to emerge from that phase of its existence. It’s all absolute nonsense to fit the agenda.

There is an interesting group on Twitter for anyone interested called ‘ NUFC fans against Sportswashing’ so there’s some very small percentage of fans that recognise it for what it is. They held an event in Newcastle this week hosting a Saudi human rights activist and sister of an activist tortured and imprisoned. They’re also planning protests on the days of the Saudi games at SJP. Look them up and give them a follow, I’ve got huge respect for the position they’re taking.

That's pretty much what would happen here too. A small percentage would stop going and object. They'd soon be replaced.

Look further up the page for evidence of that.

Yeah, fair play to them.

The whole "this will help Saudi Arabia modernise and become more tolerant" arguments are pathetic. Stories for kids to help them sleep at night. The same b***ks FIFA came out with about the world cup only to fold when Qatar rolled back on some of the already pretty pathetic concessions they'd agreed to to get the gig.

Henderson wanting to "grow the game" over there is another one. Do these people hear themselves? Still I suppose Hendo "hasn't ruled out" wearing a rainbow armband again. If they allow it. What a hero eh?
