Changes at Newcastle since Saudi takeover

I was speaking with people with first hand knowledge of player development at Newcastle recently.

This season the club have brought into the academy U15 players from worldwide. Brought their families over, put them in a house and the players in private school. The players can’t be paid apparently so money goes into a trust fund. Newcastle have gone from mainly local recruitment to having scouts in all countries and major leagues.

It’s probably no different to what the likes of Manchester City do but I found it interesting. It must cost them millions each season, but I suppose they have the oil money now.

In the 90s I would have been gutted seeing Newcastle winning something, the Keegan era.

Now, it's hollow. It's been bought by blood money so same as City, Chelsea - f*ck them.

Fans are becoming intolerable once again, success at any cost, turning a blind eye to the Saudi brutality at the expense of the pursuit of some bought trophies.

No. Fooking. Thank. You.

Howe will be next ( only he’s too vain to realise it) as the Saudis go for pep or Klop style name etc and they will….
I like Howe, comes across as a decent fella.....but he's not big enough. Results continue as they are, and if they are not top 4 by Xmas, can see him getting summoned to a "meeting".......

I'm hoping when he's sacked they go full " biggest name possible" and end up in a perrenial hire and fire scenario, looking for the new Pep, Fergie etc.

Of course they will the Saudis didn’t buy Newcastle to finish 4th with the bloke who used to be at Bournemouth.

There’s still 2 things I thought the Saudis would do straight away ( I still think they will) not football related

1 build a new wing on the hospital prob a children cancer etc in mbs name

2 pour money into Newcastle airport extend terminal build an emirates hub there.

Both to buy their way into the populace.

Newcastle are hollow but so is most of the premier league now, it’s just about who has managed to source the richest owners and it’s not a particularly interesting competition to watch as a neutral any more.

It’s in trouble because the momentum is inevitably heading towards a European and then World league as some clubs are completely outgrowing their domestic leagues.

Sad for those of us who remember the First Division and early Premier League in its hey day but it is what it is.

There’s definitely something is hollow. I know lots of Geordies and all are great people in a great city. One in particular is a massive socialist, hates Tories and thinks there’s a better way than Neoliberal England.

He’s happy to have Saudi money at NUFC though. The irony isn’t lost on him either.

I have never liked Eddie Howe from his Bournemouth days and always felt he had a dark secret to hide behind that boyish smile. My dislike for him went up a notch when he took the Saudi silver to line his pockets.

I like the way Howe is depicted in the Guardians regular football comic sketch. He’s a general on the Death Star and has a massive head!

That’s not just Newcastle fans though, it is football fans in general. You only have to read the rubbish posted on here.

They are still recruiting young talent locally. Last weekend I had a Newcastle scout approach me about my lad.

Becoming intolerable again? Surely it never went away. When they went down with us years ago most I spoke to were expecting them to be in the top 4 the first season back.

As for winning things, they're miles off in the league. Domestic cups probably provide an opportunity although the better teams still take them seriously enough, for now.

Their best opportunity this season is probably to drop out of their UCL group (a distinct possibility) and win the Europa.

I do think Howe will go at some point but I can't see a "name" coming in without guarantees of massive spending on the squad. Is an elite level manager really going to come in and suggest Burn and Longstaff are regular starters?!

That can then go one of two ways, with a significant risk that any squad harmony is shattered and better players (with bigger egos) don't gel.

The same people just offered mo salah 200 million…

I get the feeling that some of our fans are trying to find bragging Geordies. I know a few quite well and there hasn't been a peep out of them.

I hope you 'blood money' spouters are boycotting the other sports that the Saudi regime are in the process of influencing, rather than promoting them on here.

As mentioned above, football sold out a long time ago. Horse racing the same. The Saudis are the latest but look like being the biggest.

The Abu Dhabi lot of City have poured millions into the area around the Etihad developing it for City ......but have moved into resi development and the new Co-op Arena. Dubious land deals with Mcr Council, but ......

Can see the Saudis doing similar in Newcastle - but not sure if they would be able to fund hospitals or the airport? Could build a fooking huge extension to the old Vickers works, manufacturer their own weapons to use against Yemen. Win/win eh? Thousands of jobs for desperate thick Geordies.

Not this again the big difference is that it’s not Saudi links or Saudi companies as Newcastle utd are owned by mbs directly through the PIF.

the only comparrison is the Liv golf also owned by the PIF and yes I did boycott that.
