Carrick now knows the reality

Carrick mentioned in his post match interview he could see what was happening for Preston’s winner. But he couldn’t get a message on quick enough.

Reminds me of watching the boy in a Sunday morning. When they all ball watch. If a new manager / coach is tearing his hair out after the first game, what the hell has been going on that seasoned pros are incapable of defending a free kick
The players should all carry phones so Carrick can text them instructions.

Now that we’ve got him here then we need to back him and that means nothing being off the table in jan who ever he wants we should go for ( seriously) and who ever he wants out we should sell.

He needs to put his stamp on the team.
This just isn’t going to happen. We’ve had five years of new dawns, smashing leagues, marquee signings and failure. We are being taken the **** out of. What on Earth makes you think we are suddenly going to get our recruitment right or let Carrick stamp anything on the team in terms of transfers?

There’s more than enough ability in this squad to be comfortably away from the bottom three - any decent managerial set up could achieve that. Unfortunately we have Gibson overseeing things who thinks bringing someone back, who’s already failed once at the club, for another pop at it. Carrick needs a proper established set of people to work with, who have a proven track record, not the likes of Woodgate who have achieved precisely ziltch. The club is in danger of becoming a basket case.

Well said I think so as well

I’m sorry to say it but it’s really irrelevant what Carrick sees. He will see a very poor squad of players. A team devoid of an attacking midfield, pace and flair. In short he sees a team destined to be in the relegation slots all season. The only hope is that Gibson ( the architect of this mess),is prepared to open the cheque book in January. If he does then let’s hope some decent players with ability and bottle are signed, because it’s the only thing that will save us from disaster.

I agree the side ‘looks’ capable, but the tone of this thread is that the players are mentally weak. They might have some ability but many of them have no brain (needless free kicks, bookings etc), no desire (have you seen anyone dish out a JFH style bollocking?), no leadership (someone mentioned Howson trudging back to the halfway line head down every time we concede) no organisation, no responsibility, the list goes on.
Who were the leaders last season? Bamba, Peltier?

Doesn’t matter how good the players are if they aren’t being coached properly in the mere basics - i bet we could take the Arśenal squad an turn them into a mid table championship side

I’d say more Bamba than Peltier. Maybe even Tav? Different ways to be a leader and with hindsight, Tav’s workrate/effort/communication could be seen as leading by example, compared to what we’re currently seeing.
Lenihan, Smith and Mowett/Luongo not really cutting it.

Sol Bamba still without a club and Lee Peltier managing Rotherham who are sitting 13th

I wonder where we’d be if those two managed us the end of last season when Wilder tried to jump ship?

Smith and Giles poor full backs in a back 4, both last week and yesterday.

Let's see if the Hull game brings changes...

That side looks capable of a mid table finish imo.. trouble is we’ve got such a handicap from the start of the season that’s not going to be shown on the table.

Lots of players out of contract at the end of the season, a large intake of players is needed at the worst possible time and difficult to sell the position of the club as a stepping stone to the premier league right now!
Why would have mcgree holding behind hackney that makes little sense to me
