Carrick needs to be careful

I can see a situation developing where people turn on him.

It feels at the moment like we are watching the same game every single week. The worst about it though is that teams let it happen cos they know we will struggle to break them down.

Baffling subs too - leaving McGree on the bench today is criminal.
Some of his biggest backers on this board have already started to question his decisions and one new poster called for him to go.

I don’t think he needs to go, far from it, but I think the time has come for a new voice to join the senior coaching staff who has seen a thing or two and will pull Carrick up where he thinks we need to evolve. I get the impression our coaching staff are yes man who won’t challenge Carrick.

It doesn't help saying stupid platitudes like the boys did well we were the best team.

If he cant come up with a variation in tactics and we keep losing then fans will lose faith.

Next week is critical. More of the same and people will just walk out when Stoke score. We don't look like coming back from behind at all.

In my eyes he's got a week to find something to make us a bit different.

Why is he on the bench then?
Does it really matter who his 7th, 8th and 9th subs are? Realistically he's got 5 or 6 subs he plans on maybe using. The others are there to make up the numbers now we have ridiculous matchday squad sizes.
If players are returning it makes sense to get them back in the dressing room and around the matchday environment to listen, learn etc.
Pointless dragging another u21 down who he's got no Intention of using in the near future.

Agree McGree mustn't be fit otherwise he'd have been used but can't be far away

How did you form that impression?
Because we use the same system, and same players even when it’s obvious it isn’t working. We then make the same changes, like for like, every week, regardless of game stage. Presumably cos Carrick wants to play this way or use these specific players. Part of the reason Ferguson was so successful for so long because he changed his assistant every 3 or 4 years to keep things fresh and bring in new ideas.

As an outsider looking in with limited knowledge I don't see him as anything stand out special. But can he with what he is given?

I guess the question is, is he getting you to a final league position each season that is appropriate for what you spend in the league table of transfer fees and wages?

And is he noticeably making players better to create a profit on transfers?

When we were struggling last season he changed it to a 5-3-1-1 and the results changed. We have the perfect players to play a 5-3-2 this season. Would give us width and sure up the middle of the pitch. 4-2-3-1 isn’t working when your left of the 3 plays in the 10 position leaving your left back on his own. That’s why our left backs are getting hammered.

Do we have 5 fit defenders

I don’t want him to go I very much like him but he needs to change something because the players at his disposal now should have us in the Top 6 easy but they are being let down by the managers tactics, game plan and inability to change both pre games and during games 😡

Absolutely, the system is crap for our players but for some reason Carrick thinks that it’s the best thing since sliced bread.
We would definitely benefit from a back 3 ,
3-4-3 for me or 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1

A good way if looking at it. I'd argue the his first 2/3 season and last season yes regarding league position (with mitigating circumstances applied for our ridiculous injury list last season) This season of course its too early to tell.

With regards to improving players to make a profit on selling them I believe he pretty much excels at.

Dont worry gibson wont sit on his hands long he didnt waste time with southgate or woodgate if the same results keep happening its his money after all that is funding it all.

I think he is walking on thin ice.

The team doesn't look motivated and he is continually making the same mistakes.

I would love him to go on a run of wins and prove me and others completely wrong.

The movement from the front men is non existent, there is no link up play to open teams up...I think the defence is playing OK, teams are not creating chances against us.
