Carrick after match comments

I thought given the players we had available we did well. We scored the early goal so there was no need to push the game and the tempo in the first half. We just needed to play our game (which we did) and take our chances when they came (which we didn't). Had either of Jones clear opportunity or Crooks header go in then it's gae over, job done and a match nearer having players back.
We were the better team.

I thought Dana Malt (if that is who she is) was massively disrespectful to Carrick. She can put an alternative view without trying to undermine the team manager to the listening public many of whom are challenged at best. Carsick has massive experience at the very highest level of the game and has done a great job for us. Who is she?
Could say the same for almost every poster on this board to be fair.

Having slept on it I think his comments may have been aimed more at a dressing room thats lacking a bit of confidence than as an actual assessment of the game. no point in hammering them for mistakes, he only has about 15 fit players to choose from and calling them out wont help morale.

Carrick really sounded stupid when he said we played ever so well after the game. We were pathetic, should have battered them because they were crap. Digkstel is useless, Crooks was well off it Saturday and continued it last night, Jones couldn’t pass water and missed a sitter, Barlaser lost his man for first, created the second for them, and generally is weak as ****.
Let’s not even start on substitutes, Silvera might be from the outback, well he wants taking outback and rogering with a giant didgeridoo until he admits that he’s Carrick’s offspring from a relationship he once had with a Wallabee on Manure tour of Aussie back in the day.
Don't particularly like the tone you make your points in, but I honestly can't disagree with any of them.

i am she.

i don’t see how i was disrespectful, or how i undermined the manager (quite the compliment if you think i have the power to do that 😅). i was disappointed with our performance and had just heard him say something i massively disagreed with - and i put that view forward when asked.

you don’t have to be someone to have an opinion and i’m not going to dodge what i think when there’s something said that i just don’t align with. that being one of them.

i like carrick, i think he is a fine manager and i love watching his brand of football - i just didn’t like the answer (i can appreciate post-show, though, that he may have just been protecting his players)

For someone (and others) who hasn’t heard what he and she said, can we get some detail on this?

It does all come down to opinions BTW

he said “i thought we played some really, really good football tonight” then “if we play like that more often, we’ll be absolutely fine”

i was then asked to give my thoughts on what he said and i said something like it was the first time i’ve passionately disagreed with carrick and that if we play like that more often i’d be worried

can’t remember what else. i was annoyed and cold

Absolutely nothing wrong with Carrick’s interview on Tees. He was clearly feeling like a lot of us - how the **** did we lose that game.

Some of the build up play through the lines last night was very good. This is what he was probably referring to. We had players in attacking positions loads of times, due to passing through Hull easily. When in the attacking areas though the quality was poor and we didn’t make enough of it.

Last night was the first time I’ve left the Riverside really frustrated for a long time. I can accept defeats when the opposition were better, or nullified us with a specific game plan. Hull were just second best at everything but somehow scored twice. Their players annoyed me at the end and their small amount of fans. I could have punched them all in the face! 😂

You tell em Dana.
How dare you have an opinion!
I look forward to posting up the next Boro Breakdown Podcast.

Thanks for replying, I appreciate that and I know you were giving your honest and personal response to the interview.
You are intelligent enough to know yourself if you showed disrespect to his after match comments.

I did not listen to the post match broadcast on my way home as I just switched off on leaving the ground. I'd actually switched off in the stands a fair bit earlier.
Your comments reflect my feelings Dana.
If our team performs like that more often then the gap to the bottom will disappear. The play offs are simply not going to trouble us.

I do understand Carrick not singling players out and wanting to protect his players, but there is a world of difference between that and just talking nonsense.

The performance last night had one redeeming feature in VdB's performance.
The rest of it was a mixture of decent players playing really badly for a second successive home match, poor players being exposed as simply not good enough and a manager who does not impact on the game.

I get that we have injuries. I get that that disrupts rhythm and impacts quality.
But we have a massive squad and I doubt you could get many supporters to align on a first choice team if all were fit.
Our squad is not a play off squad and it is being exposed as such.

And so are we. She didn't show disrespect.

I thought we were ok but a few players really let us down. Crooks and Greenwood were awful and should’ve been changed much earlier.

Must admit I've still not watched the second half but we must have been REALLY bad?

On the first half I'd agree with Carrick, we moved it about well, got men forward and caused them plenty of problems. They relied on the odd counter attack and the couple of times their first press worked.

Of course we could and should have killed the game off in that period, but that's the main difference between last season and this for me. Our forwards just aren't at the same level (not helped by injuries etc). I fully believe we'd have gone in 3-0 up at HT if we were playing that game last season.
