Carrick after match comments

We played well apparently and just didn’t get the breaks - Does he use the same interview script after every game?

Even Uber fan Dana Malt was massively in disagreement with his summary today, a sign I’m sure!

I don’t think we necessarily played badly but as for playing well I’m not too sure if I can give any of the players a 6 after that performance.

Can’t say we played well. Only player who had a really good game was VDB. Engel did well at times too but had a few hairy moments. The rest were 6s and 5s in my opinion.

Didn’t deserve to lose but as Carrick himself says, that’s football.

I wouldn’t say we were awful and in periods we played well… right up into the final third.

Crooks / Jones both should have scored. Beyond that, we didn’t create too many chances.

My main criticism is that we were just so slow and ponderous at times. A lot of possession that went nowhere, particularly second half. At 1-0 we left ourselves open to the chance of crappy equaliser. Once it went 1-1 I feared the worst.

I would say we were 6/10 but we didn’t capitalise on our domination and our defending as usual, cost us.

Hull barely tested Dieng but were clinical with their chances. It’s an on going theme this season

In a way, we probably scored too early into the game. I felt we didn't play with any real intensity, although Hull weren't really threatening us either. Maybe the players naively felt we didn't have to play with any more intensity, it seemed too comfortable for us.

I don't agree with Carrick saying we played well but I get that he likes to protect his players, and I wouldn't say we played badly either. It was a strange game really, and the substitutions made a big difference for Hull.

Carrick was embarrassing in his Tees interview I think. He should have been honest to admit he and the players messed up. And then stonewalling fair questions is just silly. He needs to do better than he did tonight.
He was quite blunt with the interviewer when he mentioned about us being 6 points off the play-offs, although in fairness he was the same last season, when he kept getting asked about what our prospects were for making the play-offs.

I don't think he likes to give much away in interviews and likes to protect the players as much as possible.

Hull were worse than we were but that doesn’t naturally mean we played well, crooks and jones looked like they had never played together and barlaser was going for the world record of 3 yard passes. The lack of movement after a pass was made was so poor tonight as it was against ipswich, completely different to Leeds where we passed and moved well when we had chance

Uber Fan? I would say reasoned commentator.

Seem weird to me she’s described as a fan. Content creator, podcast presenter.. presenter.

Maddo come mes across as the fan tbh

Besides.. no uber fan would say we ain’t making the playoffs.

The comments regarding his lack of substitutions are interesting.. I think they are mythological and part of a bigger picture.

I would have totally have put on Matt Clarke a lot sooner… shot my bolt. Dropped Latte Lath further back., Sam Greenwood further forward..

Start of the 2nd half our left band side looked golden.

Played well but our lack of focus and giving the ball away is incredibly frustrating, when we get into the final 3rd it's like we freeze and lack composure

greenwood, crooks, engal and barlaser i give special Praise to for being exceptional *****. half that starting 11 were not good enough to give us a consistent winning team. but the main fallback for me was the garbage behind lath. only jones looked anything like an attacking threat. crooks and greenwood gave the ball away when it was easier to set up a teammate. *****.

It's hard to describe, yes we played well in the fact we created the best chances and the best situations. But then we blew those chances and wasted a lot of good positions. Not clinical enough in either box. We were also a bit unlucky.
Agreed. Missing chances is a part of not playing well. Them letting an average team come from behind to win letting in daft goals is another part of not playing well

I reckon he just knows he has to back the team he has right now because he doesn't have any other options on the table.

Doesn't do good for the morale of the B-side players he's having to play, if he goes and blames everything on them being his only option. At the end of the day his job is to try to get them playing better this month.

Engel played ok
I thought Greenwood wasn't great, but also thought the subs actually weakened us

Hull were poor and didnt create much. They were also missing two of their better players (philogene and lokilo)

We should have put the game to bed in the 1st half

The marking for the 1st goal was non-existent. stevie wonder would have scored from there!

It was a pretty dismal game by two poor teams on the night i thought - Hull improved as the game wore on and we got worse. The defending for both their goals was shockingly bad
That’s mostly fair comment, but I thought we were sufficiently the better of two poor sides in the first half to have the game put to bed, and I suspected we would regret not doing so. On another day, that could’ve been an easy win. I don’t think that excuses the manager’s comments, but fine margins all the same.

As soon as the equaliser went in you knew a second was coming. Not building from the back and acquiring a solid defensive foundation over the summer is really hurting us. We hear a lot about potential attacking movement in Jan but I’d seriously be looking at CBs with an eye to replace Dael Fry and Paddy Mc.
