Can’t really say Saudi’s responsible for Newcastle

Yeah, they've only spent hundreds of millions on players.

They're not playing with plodders.
I was having the same conversation with a Geordie at work. He basically said Howe has hardly spent anything. I started listing all of his signings for millions. His response... "Aye but Man Utd spent £85 million on Antony". Erm... ok.

Compared to the teams around them they have spent far less.

Their results improved significantly under Howe long before he spent big sums of money though, proving himself to be a top manager

He took over on the 8th of November 2021, they won 1 game in their first 9.

They then spent £78m in January, more than any other club in the world, one of their transfers was their relegation rivals' main striker.

Eddie Howe is doing a good job, but to say that the Saudi takeover isn't impacting things is completely disingenuous.

Kieran Trippier did not leave La Liga Champions Atletico Madrid for a team in the relegation zone of the PL because he loves St James Park.
Chris Wood didn't leave Burnley for a team below them in the table for the crack either.

The Saudi takeover has massively changed the perception of Newcastle.

If you think they’ve spent a lot now, then be prepared to have your minds blown if they are still sniffing around the top 4 in January. Just out of interest how much did Forest spend in the summer when we start saying 200m is a lot. The OP has a point, in relevant terms Newcastle have barely scratched the surface with what they will end up spending.

78 million is nothing in premier league money, especially when that squad was so under funded for so many years.

This summer 7 premier league teams spent more than then. Yes the money is clearly a factor but Howe is still definitely over performing with that side

I would guess at least 8/10 sides have more expensive squads

It's more than any other club in the world spent in January, it also had a direct and noticeable effect on their ability to stay up.

The money is a massive factor.

Howe is clearly doing a great job there right now, but the Saudi takeover has had a huge impact.
To say otherwise is nonsense.

You need to have another check 🤣
7 clubs spent more this summer

Don’t know the individual spends of each clubs full squad but I would guess City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Chelsea and possibly villa, Wolves and Forest have spent more on their current squad
