Brexit - deal or no deal?

Feels stage managed - Vaccinations start tomorrow (covid check), Deal agreed (Weds/Thursday - Brexit check)
Boris declares himself the messiah by Friday!
Don’t think so
Boris needs to fall in line to the eu red lines or suffer a no deal
Boris is finished with either choice
Hahahaha

Johnson is a charlatan. he goes with the way the wind blows. he was seen as a clown and enjoyed on panel shows as an interesting eccentric toff with bed hair and a talent for ancient greek history. He admits to spending his time as a 'journalist' for the Spectator and the Telegraph making up lies about the EU - straight bananas etc.
He became the Prime Minister of our country.
Think about that.

Is it entirely unthinkable that Johnson would actually ditch all of his own red lines and go full efta/EEA at the last minute?

I mean it should be unthinkable and, were it anyone else it would be, but with this unprincipled lazy shyster....

He’s cornered along with all other Brexiteers in the cabinet and not in the cabinet
No deal it is and incredible hardship on this poor country
These Tory toffs will try and sell it as rule Britannia though and get your tin hats on because the eu are evil
The spin will be in full swing against the eu

That'll be the spin but not sure it'll work this time when reality bites. All but the most gullible will realise we could have had a deal if we were willing to compromise.

Not sure how much even the most ardent brexiter will care about fishing rights if they lose their job or struggle to afford to feed their family.

Still think there'll be a deal mind. If we had sane government I'd be certain of it.

They aren't allowed to compromise. The people have instructed the government.

Is the record stuck on 350m a week for the NHS ?
Or we’ve got our country back bollox!
Hope you’re one of those workers that will be working longer hours and have little working rights in 5 years. 👍
I'm sorry but why do you hope someone, who has a different opinion to you, suffers

The eu will never compromise the single market so Boris needs to shift significantly to get a deal and if he does he will be finished as leader because the Tories are full of Brexiteers (a majority now) and they care more about sovereignty than jobs

If you read what the sticking points are though it's not really too much of a compromise required at this point.

Fishing rights are more symbolic than anything else. Some fudge there to be expected enabling both sides to claim victory.

Level playing field - this has always been non negotiable and in any case the government line has been we'll maintain or even improve environmental standards and workers rights anyway (obviously a lie, but still presentationally not too hard a sell).

Agreeing dispute resolution shouldn't be that hard either.

If we end up with no deal because of those things, it'll be because we actually wanted no deal all along. The hardcore brexiters in the party certainly do. And its definitely a possibility.

Fishing rights will get sorted. Agree
The red lines for the eu are state aid and level playing field
Those are areas they’ll be little or no compromise from the eu
Their whole eu project is at stake here and the eu will stay strong despite the pain of no deal and the eu know it’ll be worse for the uk
Despite Brexiteers like Duncan smith lying yesterday on tv saying no deal will be worse for the eu

I’m struggling to understand the Brussels visit,
Clearly it could all be said/done by phone, zoom etc.

In normal circumstances I’d be thinking they want to be together and it’s positive

I’m thinking 3 potential scenarios
1. They emerge smiling announcing the deal
2. They emerge together announcing couldn’t agree but still bessie mates
3. Johnson leaves and holds his own presser saying - they were being totally unreasonable, and, as agreed with everyone back home, I’ve taken back control

It’ll be number 3 unless Boris fore goes his political career and gives in to the eu rules because they won’t budge on those two issues of state aid and level playing field because that compromise the single market and that will never happen.

Political career because the erg and other softer Brexiteers will slowly kill him off as pm. None of them will vote for it but labour would to avoid a no deal scenario

Yup - sadly, he is the type of thing that would just love that type of grandstanding.

I assume it is because the reality is that this deal means people will suffer. It's only just that those who wanted it experience it's consequences.

In particular those who were insistent they "knew what they were voting for" and definitely anyone who uttered "its a price worth paying".

But then those people won't mind suffering anyone because that's what they signed up to isn't it?

I'll save my sympathy for the millions of people who didn't want this but are going to end up paying for it anyway.

Im sure people will hold up there hands and admit they were wrong if it turns bad and the remainers will do the same if it turns out a roaring success.

One thing that is sure it now very shortly it comes an end and we will see the beginning of the actions we have taken.

There is 100% certainty that there will be a deal. When is the question we should be asking. It looks increasingly unlikely that it will happen before Dec 31, but the EU is famous for "going to the wire".
Talks will not cease after that and it could be we have a deal sometime in 2021
Dual party Brexit deal and Covid victory we really are the BEST country 😂
