Couldnt agree more Holgate, he had the opposite affect on the close knitted team, I think if we'd made a big signing in another crucial position we'd have stayed upPeter Davenport - I still hold him responsible for relegation and Bruce Rioch’s demise.
If he had done what he was brought in to do then that team with all the emotional support it had tapped into could have gone on to big things.
I think we were 6th when we signed him.
Peter Davenport. Came with expectation and didn't deliver.
He got in great positions, danced through players . . . . but then couldn't score. Was nothing like the player at Forest and, to a lesser degree, Man United.Loved by the 'chicken run' for some reason?
My abiding memory of Mido was watching him spill onto the pitch as a 2nd half substitute during an FA Cup tie at Mansfield. What the hell were you thinking of, Southgate?
For me it’s jordan Rhodes I thought finally we have our goal machine for once we’d got the one player I always wanted.
But then bizarrely we just wasted him, first that weird spell of “resting him” after he signed but I thought ok aitor must have a plan but nope.
It was all odd very very odd, watching him run up and down the touch line week in week out and the look on his face as he went unused again was so frustrating.
He should have been the missing part in our team but he never was.
As I say just odd.
Oddly, for reasons I can't even fathom myself I expected Mido to work out. He had enough good attributes to be an asset to us as a striker, I just assumed he'd knuckle down and not want to plss his career away.
I was wrong.
