Bhoycotting the Werld Cup?

No one should watch it. It’s disgusting that Quatar be put on the world stage like this. The whole process of Quatar getting the WC was riddled with corruption. I used to like Gary Neville but he’s nothing more of a hypocrite taking their blood money. I certainly won’t watch it.

Some quality virtue signalling going on here boys, be really proud of yourselves, give yourselves a big pat on the back
Why is it virtue signalling? I couldn't give a sh*t if people have their face paint, St George's cross flags festooning their houses. Bunting a plenty. Excited for the whole tournament.

I'm not interested for a number of reasons, going to be easy not to watch it.

Why do you feel I have to watch it?

You don’t have to do anything. But you made damn sure you told all of us how you wouldn’t be watching it though…even tho you probably will

FWIW, I'll be watching England games and that's it. For all the same reasons as mentioned already, this doesn't remotely feel like a World Cup.

Watching it as I normally would, to me, validates FIFA and their decision to award it to Qatar and that's not something I personally want to do.

Seriously, I won't be watching. Watch hardly any PL. No CL. Very little international football. It's an easy miss.

The post was about people who won't be watching the WC, which I added my comment. That's it. That's how message boards work. No "virtue signalling", no sh*ts given.

It doesn't validate FIFA. It does nothing. You watching or not watching will not make one jot of difference. There are plenty of things a person can do if they want to make a difference.

This World Cup feels so wrong.. corruption, the disgusting treatment of migrant workers, criminalisation of homosexuality, woman’s rights.

But then when it starts it will be everywhere and it’s only gonna take a few tinkles on the blower to get me out for a few beers.. the curiosity will get me and the apathy of ‘what difference am I going to make’

Bhoycott?
I'll be watching. It's easy to separate the politics from the football whilst your watching a match. Personally speaking I enjoy the concept of the world cup and seeing teams from around the world compete with different styles and approaches to the game. I'm looking forward to it.

As for accusations of accepting blood money, commentators and TV crews still have bills to pay.

I don’t like the bribes involved with Qatar either , certainly Russia shouldn’t have had it with the bribes too .

But can we please stop acting sanctimonious about other countries being allowed to hold tournaments when their culture is very different to our own ? If we decided to ban any tournament over exploiting workers and anti gay views then that only really leaves europe and North America and bits of Asia that align with our own western values .

It’s designed to be a WORLD cup , which means it involves all nations from all continents . As sad as it is , homosexuality is not tolerated in Africa , the Middle East or the majority of Asia , or if is you are you aren’t allowed to be open in public about it . Hell , it’s still frowned upon by a lot of Eastern Europe too

It is what it is but banning places from holding it will only make them more staunch in their attitudes . I’m sure it will naturally evolve with improving education standards like experienced in Europe but you can’t force places to be more tolerant

I will watch. I watched the Russia one and South Africa isn’t exactly a shining example of a society either.

That’s your call
I wont be watching

The world continues to change and we learn more of what is acceptable.

Those justifying watching it because SA and Russia was the same are living in a time warp that serves no one other than themselves.

BTW, I note you aren’t justifying watching, merely commenting.

The time to make a stand would have been straight after the host country was announced. All a bit late now and pointless.
Just get it over and hopefully England will do well. Then back for our promotion push.

I have some sympathy with your post but my objection to the tournament isn't Qatar per se, or any other individual country. I want nothing to do with the tournament because it's run by FIFA, an incorrigibly corrupt organisation.
