Barlaser

I’ll try and be positive. Think he’s trying to hard. With no pace or width in the team he no left with many adventurous passes.
I’m trying

Strange response. Very defensive in your sarcasm.

He’s played 4.5 games worth of competitive minutes for us? I’m not sure what people are expecting? Give him some time.

Hackney was poor himself as was most of the team.
Sorry if my attempt at humour bothered you, I accept it was sarcastic humour but not meant in malice.

I expect a footballer who can avoid being regularly caught dwelling on the ball, someone who can avoid giving the ball away with his passing so often and someone who out of possession doesn’t watch the game drift on around him and has a more positive impact.

Hackney wasn’t great, but he had a poor player alongside him and I felt he had more to do especially without the ball on the counter. Howson and Hackney compliment each other. Barlaser is no replacement for a 35 yr old Howson on any performance I’ve seen. I accept he hasn’t played much, and I hope that continues to be the case now Howson is nearing fitness. I’d prefer Payero to Barlaser, but hey just my opinion.

He’s not good enough, neither is Coulson - it’s as simple as that. Carrick has big problems, the squad desperately lacks quality in key positions and we seem to have lapsed into a slow ponderous attacking style that teams can defend against comfortably. That was evident in the last few games last season and it’s something that needs to be sorted quickly. Of course it’s early days and a lot can change before the window closes, but it certainly needs to or we are royally screwed

I appreciate Barlaser hasn't had a run of games to get up to speed so I'm not completely writing him off just yet, but I've been extremely underwhelmed by what I've seen so far. He shows a complete lack of urgency, there is no zip to his game, just dwelling on the ball and surrendering possession with poor passes, just generally slow and sloppy.

I think that's why Hackney gave the ball away a few times because I think he was trying a bit too hard to take responsibility and show some initiative as there was nothing coming from the man next to him (to be fair the tempo was too slow across the board).

Howson looked his usual self when he came on and showed much more spark in possession, needs to start next week even if he's not 100%. I hope Barlaser can turn his Boro career around but at the moment I'd agree with others I'd be giving Payero or one of the youngsters a shot ahead of him.

I think theres a good player in there. HE played some good through balls into the box but the runs just werent timed.
I would worry if he stops trying the risky passes into the box - thats clearly where his record for assists was coming from, IMO.
I have a feeling that he is more suited to playing further forward but thats where mcgree has been doing well.

It was like watching walking football at times today, zero urgency and a very static midifield and forward line, not something I ever expected from a carrick team after last season, can’t imagine what they have been doing in training for the last month if that is the best they can come up with

And shown nothing in that time.

I don’t think we can afford to carry passengers, points are precious come the play offs.
It’s a good job there’s 45 games left then, divide that number by 10 and that’s how many games Barlaser has played.

Let’s give him a chance and get behind him.

It was all tippy tappy today. No one making a run, no through balls etc. I don't think Barlaser was particularly good today, but if there's no one to pass to other than the player 3 yards away then he's going to struggle to pick a pass. The same can be said about Hackney. Our movement was poor considering most played last season in the way Carrick wants us to and it was the first game of the season.

barlaser’s passing today lacked any zip. I think there is a player in there though. He has vision and a good range of passing.
He isn’t like howson in that he’s not a give and go type of player.
I think Carrick sees a bit of himself in him, in that he passes well and recycles/ retains possession well ,hopefully he can develop him along those lines.

What really annoys me about barlasser

This is his league the same league he had that assist record in ( up there with giles) and the same teams he faced with Rotherham he’s facing now “the geordie pirlo” and yet we’ve seen nothing absolutely no spark no drive not even a token set piece.

Why ????

Maybe we don’t need to we have,

Howson
Hackney
Barlaser
Payero
Well, since we’re talking about an alternative to Barlaser I’ll remove him from the equation.

Howson is first choice but how far and for how can we lean on a player of his advancing years?

I think we have to give Payero a try but he is more of a creative option.

I would be be very happy to see another viable option in midfield.

Ideally we would get a championship version of Kante in his prime, I don’t see CM as a position we will strengthen permanently.

Maybe a loan.
