Arrogant and clueless drivers - more about than ever?

A lot of habits on this thread are how selfish people typically live. They have everything tailored their way in what they watch, what they listen to, what's on their smart device... so why not just drive your way too? Somebody at work called it Main Character Syndrome and it applies so well.

I can understand with older motorists at times, as you could fall into some terrible habits 60 years after taking a 5 minute test, but I just can't understand younger drivers who spend huge amounts of time and money on a licence, then make the most stupid errors.

I get perplexed by drivers who pay no attention to speed limits, just putting themselves a metre behind another car to regulate their speed. So on a residential road, you see these types in your rear view mirror as they join the road from a junction, then within a couple of seconds they're close enough for a rectal exam.

As for undertaking, I use the western bypass for my commute and it's like the Simpsons scene when Homer uses the lane for Stonecutters most mornings.

In Manchester red lights are just suggestions.

I think it should be legal to scratch the bodywork of any car parking on a double yellow line, or on a pavement.

I wish death by fireball to the roid-heads who bully their way down the fast lane of motorways by aggressively trying to touch bumpers or flash lights to force people over. You're not Vin Diesel little fella.

I think ^^ chevrons on the A19 lanes around the A66/Portrack interchanges would recommend traffic to keep a distance from each other, thus allowing space for incoming traffic off the A66 to zipper join?
Motorways such as the M1 have these chevrons to keep cars a safe distance apart.
I think as you join the northbound bit from the 66 heading east onto 19 slip road is a give way (you’re supposed to stop! Try that and you’ll have someone in your backend before you can blink) and then the second part from the slip onto the 19 itself is a merge at speed. The viewing angles on that whole junction are awful. It’s just an awful junction that I try to avoid.

hopefully if they ever get the bridge upgrades done as proposed they will make a better job of it.

I include myself in that comment BTW. I'm sure that when I sit in my car bemoaning another driver's crass stupidity there has probably been another driver bemoaning what he sees as mine at some point. Maybe I indicated too late for his liking, or merged in turn too late (or early) than he would have preferred.
I wonder if I ever left my main beam on a tad longer than necessary.
Who knows? It's a minefield out there.
I think I'll get the bus.

People who drive at 40+ in the 13.5 foot wide road I live on and think its acceptable to drive the length of 3, 4 houses half on the road, half on the pavement at the same time.

I'd happily shoot them!

I’ve definitely left my main beam on too long. Mainly because that was before I found out my cars auto main beam function was the single most useless and dangerous thing fitted to a modern vehicle.
Essentially yes there are three types of driver: those that drive too fast. Those that drive too slow. And me

I don't drive but even I was surprised when, as a passenger on Sunday, we witnessed a car coming towards us the wrong way round one of the major roundabouts on the Manchester ring road. Luckily the roads were quiet (presumably how they had made that error?) but it was mildly terrifying to say the least.

I've seen that a few times on the roundabout between Marske and Saltburn 😬

People in automatics that will not use their hand brakes when stopped at lights and just sit on the foot brake. Some of these modern autos have very bright brake lights in your face and dazzle you at night, especially in rain.

I remember when I first passed my test - it was such fun - driving all over UK with mates, and then family.
Now I absolutely loathe it - every single second.

The may just be using the hold feature? My last two cars I've not used the handbrake at all. Though it will come on when parked. IN fact my current car doesn't actually have a handbrake in the traditional sense.

I'm not sure indicators are not as bright (I'm sure they have a legal limit?). I just think it's probably because some cars have LEDs and some don't.

The difference is simply night and day (worked that in😂). I had LED day running lights on my car but everything else was the boggo. So I swapped them all out with LEDs from AutoBeam.

It cost me around £120 for the lot but the difference is stunning. The dipped beam and indicators are so much brighter. Also fitted myself thanks to YouTube (although a bit of a faf removing lights etc).

I thought upgrading halogen with LED was illegal as they aren't E marked?

I drive loads with work now and see some pretty shocking driving and lack of basic observation which is scary. A couple that are concerning or frustrating:

People not maintain a safe distance when on the motorway. The amount of time someone cuts in front of me when I've left a good distance to the car in front. I then have to speed up usually to overtake them! People don't seem to be aware of reaction times should something happen.

Roundabout - the amount of time people do not use basic observation when approaching. Some don't look right until they're at the end of the road then stop! If they just looked when approaching it's obvious at times that they could have gone straight over!
