Anyone doing dry January?

I’m doing a full month drinking only water and black coffee and eating only red meat and salt. So far so good.

I only have a good drink once every 6 months these days, after realising it was always a waste.
im doing just water, I'm bad for caining cans of pepsi max. Peeing every 5 mins at the minute due to only having water. Sure ill feel better for it at the end of Jan though.

I'm fully 0% larger & wines for a good few years now & no issues with it at all - plus zero banging heads, which is a huge bonus - larger esp is really good now & doesn't have a chemical taste like the old - low alcohol lagers did..

good luck to those giving it a go & esp if you're trying to quit..

Good stuff Jimbo. Keep up the good work!

I'm doing dry jan for the 2nd year running. After doing it last year I noticed a definite lowering of even wanting a drink at all for the rest of the year. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I had a *real* drink in the 11 months afterwards, although i didnt actually keep track to be honest. I use the "try dry" app from alcoholchange.org. It tracks your dry streak, calories, units and money saved. It's been a real motivating factor (y)

Thanks for the support everyone. I'm having a bit of trouble getting to sleep at a normal time (I am on longterm leave from work due to injury) so bedtime has been anywhere from 3-6 am, but so far no temptation to have a drink. Noticed my face looks less puffy as before I had alcohol bloat every single day, and the dark circles under my eyes have lessened, so even though it's early days at least I have a couple of minor physical improvements already.
Saddy, hope your situation improves, I get where you're coming from
Sleep takes time. Don't worry about it, when you need sleep it will come. When I stop drinking I can see a huge difference in my face and my appetite.

Always feel better physically and mentally with a few weeks off, but always tempted back around an event….gig, away day etc….Good luck on your journey Jimbo…one day at a time and don’t judge yourself too much.

Yeah but if your drinking is centred around events and stuff thats more healthy and not really a problem, so you seem in good control of it 😊

Just a minor update for you kind people that have been following my post, I've just attended my first online AA meeting, and now feel confident enpugh to take the next step on my journey and go to a physical meeting tomorrow, bit nervous but guess everyone there is in the same boat, or has been 🤷🏼‍♂️
Don't worry about attending, you will be welcomed. I went to my first meeting many years ago when p!she'd and off my face. It took me many meetings until I eventually got it, and got sober. You will hear the phrase "keep coming back" and "it will only work if you work it..i.e the programme". It's very true.
Sometimes you can't do it by yourself and need to be around people who get it.
Good luck. One day at a time.
