Annoyingly difficult "easy" jobs

Halfords bike mechanics are known for being next to useless - take it to a real bike shop.
Totally agree, it was the experience of buying a bicycle at Halfords. They said they would do a full mechanical check before I collected it. There were many issues, but I fixed them myself, which I always do.
Anything super tricky and I go to Paul Curran in Stockton👍

I am very willing to pay someone at Halfords a tenner for this job - saves me time and the skin on my knuckles.
Yes until you go for an mot and it fails because theyve put the bloody things in pointing up to the sky

I once had to change them on a ford focus I used to own. Ended up taking both headlight units out all together.

Another easy job I hate is hanging curtains or shower curtains.

Building flatpack furniture - if it's over a certain size or complexity (think wardrobes) then there's always something that isn't quite right

Dripping taps used to be fixed with a little rubber washer. Now they have ceramic cartridges that costs 50X more but are supposed to be easy to swap over. That is until you try and do it! I think monobloc mixer taps have the lock nut welded into place at the factory!

A rather topical one. Removing the silver cover from the top of the little plastic serum bottle with Covid lateral flow tests. I might have got a bad batch but blimey, could I hell get them off. no matter how hard I pulled. Right faff.

My son took his Vauxhall Astra to Halfords to change a front sidelamp bulb. This was after a big advertisement campaign by Halfords for free fitting.
Result, sorry we can't do Astra's, too difficult!!!!

As a former Astra owner, I can confirm this. They stood around and scratched their heads like they were about to attempt a summit of Everest on a particularly bad day, but they did eventually get it done.

Changing a toilet seat!
2 simple plastic wingnuts that should just easily screw off. However, years off Pi55 can guarantee the metal screw rods are rusted in solid and you need to get a hacksaw round the back.
Add to that the stale stench you can’t get off your hands for the rest of the day.
Use rubber gloves mate (y)

But yeah, that's not a nice job, even on a supposedly clean toilet, as you don't realise how dirty they are until you try and get at the bolts!

Changing those led lights which are in the ceiling with that little clip holding them in.

I've ripped 2 of them out of the ceiling by accident over the years, so annoying.
I was going to mention these!

Had three mousetrap moments with those, and some black fingernails, the springs on the clips are unnecessarily tight.
