5 managers, 76 new signings

In the 5 years since relegation. It’s completely unsustainable.

5th, 7th, 17th, 10th, 7th. Those finishes suggest we’d ‘bottomed out’ at this level and had started to look up instead of down.

A dozen new players this summer, another dozen gone. And then one game after an international break, we sack the manager.

What on earth is happening at this football club?

You’ll find out right now how much the club have been taking the fans for a ride. If we now go for a defensive manager then you can chuck out absolutely everything that they’ve come out with for the past 2 years and they’re still running the club like a bunch of amateurs.

You HAVE to get out of this division (upwards), in order to profit from the Premier League. If it doesn't looks like that will happen this absolute immediate moment, Gibson pulls the trigger. Rinse and repeat. Warnock and Pulis managed us like we are - a fairly unremarkable Championship club, maybe a chance of sneaking the playoffs. He probably doesn't like that, so it's the guys who look like you will get the top two, despite the squad being no bloody good.

We're always one or two signings away, aren't we? The next transfer window, the manager will get THE players he wants. But we're miles away, just about as far away as I can remember. And yeah, it's complete disaster management that's got us here.

Complete scattergun approach that suggests to me there is too much short term thinking in the club. We are miles off being contenders in this league and save for a couple of seasons under Karanka it has been the same since we came down over a decade ago.

Some tough decisions and a a manger that must be given time is needed.

But will they get that time though? Wilder was supposed to be the one getting the time and support. Will the next bloke really get any longer than a year?

Agree totally chap.(y)
All over the last two weeks I`ve been sticking those facts in every post, but some still think by sacking the last Manager, the next one will be the new "Messiah".
Then the next.
Then the next.
What do the players think?
Johnny Howson was brought in under Gary Monk - hes played under 6 Managers [and Caretakers] in under 5 years!

Wouldn't it be bloody lovely if we got an interview with Gibson.

An honest, to the point address to the supporters on where we are, what has happened (doesn't have to be the nitty gritty details, just an overview of his thoughts of Wilder's tenure) and what his plans are for the future.

I think we need to hear from him or Scott. There's usually something on BBC Tees when this happens.

Yep, nail on head!

We are a few players away, we know what the issue is, we know the players we want, we will get them next window, then....how much??? no chance, we wont overspend or be ripped off, we will get better value oh look the window shut...

I don't want to bang out an overly long message here but I think the transfer market has changed dramatically over the last few years.
Even so called 'smaller' Clubs are getting very clever hanging on to their playes (eg, Millwall giving us Saville but not letting Spence go).
Look at poor penniless Coventry turning down our bids for Gyorkores.
They'll let 'flawed' players go but they know they need to bend over backwards to keep the best.

The only way to get these players is to pay well over the odds.
We've done this (Assombolonga) and been well and truly stung.
Name me any substantial inter-League transfers (champo to champo) during the last few seasons......it is hardly happening.
The only spend is from the PL - they have money to burn - the gap is too big and the game is fooked.

Then again you can always find one of Mowbray's 'diamonds'. But this takes genius and time.
When we got promoted to the PL I was already getting excited about the parachute payments (sad I know).
But this was a 3 year chance to fund a proper scouting department.

Or, we do what we should have been doing for years and bringing in the best from leagues 1&2. I am sick to death of us wasting millions in wages on overpaid premier never-have-beens instead of more matty crooks signings. get the best 10 players from league 1 and if even 1 or 2 pay off we should be quids in. AND they will have the hunger that the overpaid prem loanees never will have.

There aren't many because the opportunity for a championship team to buy a top end Championship player is small. The very good ones are bought by PL clubs or they get promoted themselves. Most players won't leave one middling championship club for another, they'll wait and go to a PL club for 5x the wages. Most Parachute teams have a PL squad to pay for so can't afford big money signings or if they are buying it will be from the PL. Most other championship clubs are hamstrung by FFP.

We had an actual chance of spending money this season because we have had several seasons where we haven't which made us good with FFP and we brought in £25m. That's not something we can do every year but we actually had an opportunity.
