still there, although the Gazette are good at quickly shuffling down stories that embarrass their mates. It's soon been removed from the Gazette website.
know what you mean about not holding something against someone indefinitely (within reason…). But less than 24 hours ago he was denying this was true and threatening libel action. So not sure about that “upstanding citizen” bit! We've had people "resign" at our place when they have been stealing. It is easier than prosecution and doesn't drag the company name into the courts and newspapers.
So plainly he is a thief.
That said it was (I assume) some time ago and we really shouldn't be judging people on things they did in the past if they have subsequently become upstanding citizens. I think that should be a universal stance?
I'm not sure it's fair to categorise an MP bringing up the criminal history of a sitting PCC as them trying to torpedo him - it's not simply a personal matter but something that strikes at the heart of whether he's a fit and proper person to be a PCC. It's a legitimate issue. The real issue here is the absolute catastrophe that the creation of PCC's have had on UK policing.
Politics and policing should never be conflated and we've had years of the local Tory MP's trying their best to torpedo Coppingers tenure and now Labour MP's trying to do the same for the current PCC.
It's quite frankly pathetic and ultimately to the absolute detriment to the people of Teesside that Cleveland Police are there to serve.
A waste of taxpayers money and the whole idea has been disastrous.
And you think that he would have done so if the PCC was a Labour candidate? Come on!!!I'm not sure it's fair to categorise an MP bringing up the criminal history of a sitting PCC as them trying to torpedo him - it's not simply a personal matter but something that strikes at the heart of whether he's a fit and proper person to be a PCC. It's a legitimate issue for him to raise, a PCC shouldn't have a criminal history. And you think that he would have done so if the PCC was a Labour candidate? Come on!!!
I speak as someone who has been knee deep in the student union politics that have circulated the last two PCC's - it's quite frankly pathetic and ultimately a disservice to the people of Teesside that Cleveland Police, who are 'supported' by the PCC.It's a legitimate issue for him to raise, a PCC shouldn't have a criminal history.
Interesting the bluster from the PCC was all about it being untrue and demanding a retraction - only to come out and admit it is true.
Well I speak as someone who lives in the area covered by this PCC and I do not believe it to be pathetic or a disservice, on the contrary I believe it to be of great service when the PCC's criminal past is identified.I speak as someone who has been knee deep in the student union politics that have circulated the last two PCC's - it's quite frankly pathetic and ultimately a disservice to the people of Teesside that Cleveland Police, who are 'supported' by the PCC.
Maybe it does, but the fact remains that this wasn't an example of public service by MacDonald, it was entirely designed to discredit the sitting conservative PCC - and I say this as someone who's politics is left leaning. Lets not dress this up as something it isn't.Well I speak as someone who lives in the area covered by this PCC and I do not believe it to be pathetic or a disservice, on the contrary I believe it to be of great service when the PCC's criminal past is identified.
A PCC should not have a criminal history - cautions or convictions should at very least be disclosed so the public can determine their suitability fully. Hiding and lying about it makes the situation even worse.
