Russell is a really nice lad, genuine bloke. He’s worked really hard with his dad to get that place off the ground. The function room has been done out with a view to having a brudenell in boro..
The Arena, The Cornerhouse, The Crown & The Westgarth
The Four Pillars of the Middlesbrough Music Scene..
56 trusties caving into a few grand in their pocket to save what looks like a failing venture at the moment.. we’re all struggling at the moment, you could hardly blame them.Maybe the uni has put a offer in the trusties couldn't refuse?
Yeah.. come to think of it.. it had everything apart from the bands. The temple started off promising before the owners ran it into the ground. Was The Crown ever really a pillar of the Music scene ?
I'd swap out The Crown for the Town Hall, certainly when I was younger.
Think that's the lad who does the folk club in the chapelHe's also on here as well I believe as @the_gin_soaked_boy
Don't blame them, just wish it wasn't so56 trusties caving into a few grand in their pocket to save what looks like a failing venture at the moment.. we’re all struggling at the moment, you could hardly blame them.
The crown did have bands on for a time on Thursday nights. It wasn't a great venue for it tbh because it was such a large open space height wise, so needed a really large sound systemYeah.. come to think of it.. it had everything apart from the bands. The Crown needs to be brought back as a venue imo..
Aye, I'm the folk club gadge me....He's also on here as well I believe as @the_gin_soaked_boy
Lefty - I have edited this as I realise I should wait for the Westgarth to make their official announcements before passing comments about this - I know Andy, Henry and myself met up with Mbro Council about 5 or so years ago about the Westgarth and other initiatives - there were stumbling blocks on different sides as I recall, But what is happening in Stockton, private and council working in tandem is really positive. But there is a vast effort there from local club owners etc.Perhaps if Middlesbrough Council had been as supportive and forward thinking as Stockton Council is with their music scene...
Lefty - there were some problems with the Westgarth committee as well as I recall. We had meetings with Mbro Council about 5 years ago but there were stumbling blocks amongst some at the club as well as at the council.
Like everyone else, I’m gutted about this. I must admit I wasn’t sure at the start about gigs moving from The Knights to the Westgarth but I was soon won over. We’ve had many, many a happy night in there and seen some absolutely brilliants acts (praise here to TKASG as well as the venue itself).
And, as much as I also love The Chapel, their new room doesn’t strike me as being anywhere near as big as upstairs in The Westgarth. (Happy to be proved wrong though).
Is there anything that can be done to save The Westgarth? I know we’re not quite on a par with Sheffield and The Leadmill, but surely we can’t just roll over and let this little gem sink without trace?
