Watmore AND Akpom leaving

Watmore's energy, attitude and dedication are exemplary. Seriously, he's a superb role model.

None of which alters the fact that he's just not good enough for where we want to be. Thank you and goodbye, zero regrets.

I've not read of Watmore leaving from any other source.

Could this be a case of journalist laziness? Is it possible that they mean Akpom and Uche, both of whom we've known are on their way out for a while?

I know they're hard to mix up,.but I can easily imagine how someone saying Akpom and the other guy" could Chinese whisper itself into this.

It seems a very isolated report and completely out of the blue.

Gyokeres has done it twice and there talking over £10m for him . Obviously ages comes into it all for all
Players it just doesn’t make sense to let him go unless we have some that can get into double figures . Watmore obviously doesn’t cost us a transfer fee right now

I’m hoping so because he does fill an important role which will come in handy at several points over the course of the season. And he’s got a great attitude!

It's Graeme Bailey that wrote the article.

Far from a reliable source, but he's a Boro fan, I don't think he'd mix them up.

What is this love affair with the coventry striker, really hope we get him, I would be excited if this happens etc, Whilst I am not saying he is not a good player he has had one good season in the championship, so IMO anything over 6/7 million which is still a lot and we shouldnt be entertaining it.

Piroe & obafemi bought by swansea 3m for both scored over 30 goals between them, watkins, pukki, maupay all bought for small fees scored bags in the right team in the championship, we need to buy clever in the same way we brought in crooks, take his goals and assists away, plus link up play for Isaih jones assists and where would we have been last year then.

The thing is, with that line of thinking I could say we should have sold Spence for 3/4m, with him playing in a position which players are far cheaper, there's obviously loads of right backs/ RWB's about, and he was playing for a team who went up, not a mid table one (so had an easier ride/ better around him)?

I think the love comes because we all saw first hand how Gyokeres absolutely destroyed us, probably more than most strikers in the league (and they have next to nothing else to help him), and we're meant to be strong in defence.

Piroe had scored 4 goals in the previous two years (crap Dutch league), and Obafemi had 4 in his 4 season career, they were both gambles which paid off, like how Covenry's gamble of £1m on Gyokeres paid off. We certainly wouldn't get any of them for less than £12m now, and Piroe/ Gyokeres probably £15m plus, maybe less for Obafemi.

I know what you're saying about buying smarter and I agree with it, but Swansea/ Cov are probably not expecting to be battling for promotion each season, so kind of have to gamble more. We need to be buying with more confidence in that position, so it comes at a premium, and proven forwards are top dollar.

Watkins was a gamble from league 2, and only paid off in his third season, Muapay came good in his second, I think the idea is we can't/ don't want to wait that long. Norwich got Pukki for nothing, but he was a good find of course, and already quite proven.

I do understand but again, several players have battered us from a striker point of view, even Uche bullied us and for me thats down to Frys inability to be a commanding CB and why Lenihan has been brought in amd I assume will be no 1 for that position which is why I think Fry may ask to go too and we my cash inn due to only 2 years remaining on contract.

Nothing against the coventry lad he may will end up being a top player and potential for the boro just amuses me how he is the go to man based on one good season.

Coventry are looking for a fee probably not to similar to what we paid for Britt and Britts record in league football was and is much better than the cove try forward.

Again Forss, Hoppe, Muniz are all them gambles we are taking about as none of them are prolifoc at this level for a period of time, my one hope for any striker playing under wilder is with Giles and jones we will deliver balls into the box and not have CF playing with there back to goal when it is not there game.

To be honest I thought Gyokeres caused us more problems than Mitrovic, and Mitro only got a goal because we switched off. I don't think we even switched off against Coventry, he just dicked us, and dicked us in many different ways, picking up the ball in many different areas. I'm not saying Gyokeres is better/ going to score more than Mitro of course.

I think it's Gyokeres has so, so much to his game, it's not just the goals.

Other players have caused us a physical problem, but we're not looking to play a physical way, so players like Uche won't suit us.

I didn't mind the Britt signing, and he had a better goalscoring record over a multiple years, prior him coming to us, but he was just a goal scorer, and we didn't create a great deal.

I think Forss looks like less of a gamble as he's cheap and he's done it before with limited minutes for Brentford, and I didn't expect anyone to do it with Hull. Muniz is similar, good record with limited minutes but playing for a side who created more than anyone. Hoppe looks like a bigger gamble, probably a smaller fee than the other two.

Yup, that's the key this year, we will have no excuses with Giles and Jones providing, but need to make the most of them this year as we might not have either next year.

You really missed the opportunity to say he gave us a right good pegging

It will be interesting to see how many goals Mitrovic scores next season and I totally agree with you about Gyokeres - he was absolute quality last season and CW would have seen it - I think Maddo even said my what a player!

Seems a 2 million signing on fee may tempt Vardy into a move - seems he could be short of a few Bob shortly!

I didn’t realise he’s was only 24 I thought he was 27 ish . It doesn’t look like he’s on our radar now like and may have Armstrong coming in instead on loan.

A mistake if so.
Gyokeres should be the priority that makes the wait worthwhile.
All
Comes down to the fee doesn’t it , if they want over £10m we’re going to be speculating on the likes of forss and hoppe . You never know nearer to the Window closing anything could happen
