He may have got away with this if Johnson hadn't weasel worded his statement on Sunday, forcing Cummings to come up with a totally implausible justification for his actions in his statement on Monday. Newsnight just focused on the Barnard Castle trip and the reason for heading North, clearly concluding he'd flouted the rules. They even questioned the doctoring of the blog to support his assertion of warning of a coronavirus epidemic.

It's unbelievable that shenanigans like this can go on in a modern democracy.

I see another tory MP has had a visit from the police for having a birthday party for his wife, a couple of guests were asked to leave.
 
That sums up the contempt and disdain the politicians and their strategists hold anyone outside of their inner circle, whether that be your average Joe on the street or a very well respected, senior clergy figure.

It's interesting that he claims his 40 minute drive to Barnard Castle led him to need a 15 minute sit down near the river because he felt sick, yet they "went home and immediately packed" ready to go home the next morning. Feeling sick after a 25 mile drive doesn't really fill you with confidence that he could drive 10 times that distance? :unsure: Another Schrodinger moment, safe but not safe at the same time.
 
It's lesson in lying. No matter how clever you think you are, it'll start unravelling and eventually you'l just have to pile ridiculous lie on top of ridiculous lie until you come clean.

Not sure that he has something on them per say, I think its more that only Cummings has a plan after Brexit and only Cummings knows that plan. Without him the government would turn on each other over how to move forward.

They are that despirate to avoid this, they're willing to do anything to keep him.
