Do some of you think you might be slightly over-reacting?

Jones quote

"He said we've had a lot of people coming to our ground celebrating. We've had Burnley coming to our ground celebrating, we've had Coventry, use that as fuel for next season. He said next season we're going to aim for automatic promotion, not play-offs but more, and I think we can get it. If we can get the right signings in, why not."
The reality is people think we will have a “ transition season” and come back like it’s nothing. You take every opportunity to get out this league our best bet is having Mcgree forss and jones all starting instead of silvera and rogers. If he insists with rogers and silvera engle we will continue to struggle

It's the worst start we have ever had in the history of our club. No team in our history (and we have had some shockers) have ever had a worse start . How can you overreact to something that is the worst ever.

there is a big difference between what Jones says in an interview (of course he will be aiming for automatic) and what our actual in-house target is.

I will be amazed if Carrick is expected (doesn't mean we shouldn't challenge for it) to get automatic from Bausor, Scott, Gibson

I said on another post
We have to keep our nerve
The new squad has to be given time to gel
There will be a few more defeats yet so everyone has to look at the bigger picture
MC and his team will as will Gibbo

That’s what carrick told the players

That’s point if that’s not an in house target then I’m not sure what is

That seems very clear.

No it isn’t and yes they have.

It’s not a massive comfort but as I said on another thread the BBC has this wrong. In 1984-85 when we went six at LLLDLL before a league win and got knocked out of the league cup as well.

And that was looking something up half recalled from memory. I haven’t trawled earlier stats. There could be worse.

It was worse in 1984-85 as you say, which included a 2-4 defeat to Bradford over two legs of a League Cup first round tie. So no wins from the first 7 competitive games. That became no wins in 8 when we lost 2-1 at Fulham. We only won 4 of the first 17 competitive games that season. Only 5 of the first 20. Only 6 of the first 33, which includes a 0-0 draw and a 2-1 defeat to Darlington in the FA Cup.

But he's quoting Carrick speaking to the players, in the dressing room, right after the costly playoff defeat, when hes trying to pick them all up off the floor, right?

Transition to what i cant remember when a transition season has been followed the next season with positive progress it inevitability means decline

Sorry is that aimed at me? I’m not sure of the point?

Edit* Now I see what you’re trying to do, you see something that may be worth challenging (I don’t btw I say keep carrick) but you don’t want to challenge it yourself you’d rather initiate some sort of pile on by screen sharing a nothing quote.

Poor but not unexpected.

Dunno, you tell me?

I don’t think it will be much different though given that we’ve sold 2 players and signed 10 permanently.

I don’t imagine Dieng, Lath and co will have come for peanuts.
One for when the accounts become available but I’d imagine we have cut our cloth accordingly.

Akpom and payero were on a decent wage you’d think.

I accept all that as things stand. However, in doing so Izzy was clear and Carrick was to Izzy with his comment In the summer, so the goalposts have undoubtedly been moved, I doubt it was by Carrick and more likely by Gibson or Scott.

Plenty of posters were talking about hoping to get Archer, Giles, Ramsey back and extend Akpoms contract. I commented on here that I would be amazed if any of it were likely. I was pulled up on the word ‘amazed’ too. I think I said Archer was worth about £20M, Ramsey around £15M and Giles about £5M and so it proved roughly speaking. I said I thought lower prem clubs or the promoted teams would be daft not to sign them, If I knew it was so highly unlikely, so should the club have too, if they didn’t they were naive. I have no doubt they tried, be daft not to ask, but obviously baulked at the price, understandably out of our price range, but as a club they should have realised their worth and known it was as likely to happen as Heidi Klum knocking on my door to take me to lunch and therefore made other arrangements quickly.

We were once flying with an attack full of talent, expectations and hope was rightly high, replacing them with a team full of wannabees, time is clearly needed, patience is needed, but on a message board expecting people not to be truthful is also unrealistic. Can you personally guarantee the new signings will rapidly improve, can you or anyone guarantee we will not be a league 1 club next season or a Premier League club by 2026?

The answer is no. Seasons always go the same way, some people are always glass half full, some always glass half empty, then the bulk of others who I call the realists, they are critical when things are failing and praise when things are going well, calling what they see on a pitch. You don’t have to have played the game at a high level to be astute and knowledgeable. In fact many that have have proved failures. We can’t change how the season pans out, but as a paying customer i expect my voice to be listened to.
Apologies this bypassed me somehow, I think we can agree the goalposts have changed at some stage in terms of aims and objectives. I’d wager a lot of that depended on Giles, Ramsey, Archer and Akpom which were never realistic.

The top table are trying to recruit to have the same output eventually but I don’t believe the aim can be automatic promotion when you’re bringing in a dozen players from across the world.

For what it’s worth under woodgate I was extremely critical of the club albeit not on here, I don’t believe right now is the time to be critical. It to be patient.
