Not having the best of starts to his loan with Leyton Orient, At fault for 2 at the weekend and now Newport County's first tonight. His confidence will be shot. Luckily Orient were 3-0 up at the time.

Yes just reading one of their message boards and it doesn’t sound good, saw the goals at the weekend and they were definitely disappointing, hopefully he turns it around.

Yes, I feel for the lad. It is the one position where mistakes cost significantly. Thankfully Orient won comfortably, but fans will be worried as will their manager. I hope he is selected at the weekend and has a good quiet game, if he is deselected I worry how that will affect him.

Boro will undoubtadly be monitoring. I saw him v Celtic at end of last season and felt he was struggling in that game, but overall his St Mirren loan was very positive.

Saw him play for St Mirren at Kilmarnock last March. Made a brilliant save in the first half (which St Mirren dominated) then conceded five goals in 18 minutes as 2-0 became 2-5. And he got barged all the way over an advertising hoarding and landed about five yards behind the touchline. Didn’t really inspire confidence in his command of the high ball despite being about 6’ 3”

Sounds like another tough day at the office for him……

Furious Wellens did not hold back: “There is no hiding from it, our goalkeeper (Zach Hemming) has cost us points,” he stated. “We could easily be sitting here with six or seven points, so he needs to look at himself in the mirror and get better but I thought our response was fantastic.“

Saw the first goal Birmingham scored yesterday. Yet another keeper caught playing the ball out short and being embarrassed. I see Muric did the same again yesterday at the Etihad.

I know Hemming has had a tough start to his time at Orient, making a few mistakes in the previous games, but on this occasion I think Wellen’s comments are harsh. If you look at the game, Hemming’s mistake leads to Brums first goal, no doubt. But then Orient capitalise on a goalkeeping error from the Birmingham keeper to equalise so you kind of think “well ok they cancel each other out”. And from there, Birmingham’s second comes from Orient’s central midfielder being caught on the ball in the middle of his own half. Hemming might have done better in the one on one, but that’s a situation that always favoured the striker.

Very harsh words imo. Big test of the lads character now.

Yep, just seen Birminghams goals, lads confidence must be rock bottom. It is never a good look throwing players under the bus, but Wellens must be frustrated because every gaff has led to a goal in just about every league and cup game played. Hope Zach comes through this period, if he does then it’ll stand him in good stead.

Fans on their Facebook page are absolutely killing him. Several calls for his loan to be terminated.

Almost unbelievable comments in this day and age. Especially with regards to a players mental health and wellbeing. Also the fact he's new to the club and relatively young.

They obviously rated him. Also his previous loans have been a success.

I guess his confidence is shot after a difficult start. It's a strange one as a keeper. One mistake and it's all on you.

I recall a Chelsea manager "sacked" Dave Beasant in the early-90s, stating the latter would never play for them again. Beasant did play for them again, after Ian Porterfield, the manager, was sacked

Is this real ? I can't quite believe he would say that. "He needs to look at himself in the mirror and get better" Yeah, that will work. When I struggle, or make a mistake, I look at myself and and magically get better at it. I don't need anybody to help me with my progression, point me in the right direction or any thing, the old mirror trick works wonders. Can't believe more people aren't just getting better. What a nob head

Can’t see Scott and Carrick etc being happy with them comments.

I think that will be the last time we send a player out on loan to team managed by Wellens.

The manager didn’t have to dig him out could have said something along the lines of the above and then brought him back out for a few games and brought him back in when the time was right.

Very, very poor management from him.

Especially when it's only his 4th game for them.

I don't blame their fans for losing their heads, we'd probably be the same, but there's no need for the manager to be coming out with comments like that over a new signing.
