Yorkshire Poll

Born within the sound of Ayresome Park chants, so clearly a YES

Middlesbrough is a Yorkshire club, anyone born South of the Tees is from Yorkshire. People can say what they like, think what they like, behave how they like, but it changes nothing, you are a Yorkshireman or Yorkshirewoman.
I always find it odd that people pretend not to be from Yorkshire. You can be a Teessider too, thats allowed, but you are still
YORKSHIRE

Middlesbrough FC wouldn't exist in the guise it is now without the fans from the north bank of the Tees. Middlesbrough is a Teesside club.

This is the thing that’s inhibited Boro and Teesside moving on more vigorously than the other Northern industrial conurbations. We squabble like chickens in a pen not about territory but what to bloody call ourselves .

Certainly not being faecicious towards the posters on here because we love debate which enriches the board but my ire is towards successive leaders ( local and national ) who have done exactly this for generations and moved us about ( in name ) like on a chess board .

Yesterday on here we examined city status and if you think about it every time these people who determine who gets it look at Teesside they probably have to dig a ‘ latest ‘ map out to see what exactly we are . If we can’t get one voice and put a definitive cap on how the hell can they label us ?

As mentioned above Yorkshire doesn’t want us so sod them . We are like the unpopular uncle who has to be invited to a family wedding “ oh sit him over there out the way as he becomes a nuisance “ The family member nobody wants

btw born in Boro and am a Teessider

Who says Yorkshire doesn't want us? I suspect most couldn't care less. I've spoken to plenty who are a bit surprised (but then they tend to think we're half a dozen miles from Newcastle) and plenty (whose geography tends to be a bit better), who are adamant the boundary is and always was the tees.

Just as Sheffield people probably couldn't care if Barnsley was in Yorkshire, and Doncaster folk don't care if Huddersfield is.

I'll bet the vast majority don't want Leeds in mind. Unfortunately it's not a popularity contest.

Go as far as Stokesley and Guisborough and they’ll tell you .

If Middlesbrough wasn't in Yorkshire, then Guisborough wouldn't be either, so they'd be daft to try and say that.
The point I’m intending to express is they don’t see us as of the same persuasion as themselves . We’re grotty Teessiders to them

Either we're both in Yorkshire and grotty Teessiders, or we're both just grotty Teessiders.

Stokesley is indisputably in North Yorkshire by any metric you use, Guisborough are in the same halfway house as the rest of Teesside.

Beg to differ . That mad mile is an awful greater distance to Guisborough folks minds .

Doesn't matter, the only reason people claim Middlesbrough isn't in Yorkshire anymore is because it's treated administratively as part of the North East and not Yorkshire and the Humber.

Guisborough is treated administratively as part of the North East too.

Both are still in Yorkshire, or neither are (it's both).

You’re right on paper but I’m claiming the difference is in people’s minds . Again I’d be astonished to hear a Guisborough person saying they’re a Teessider . May be wrong but don’t think I am

We are happy to welcome Durham folk to support our Yorkshire club given your big local alternative is now in the lower leagues....in fact we are not proud we welcome support from across the globe.

Where have I said it isn’t a Teesside club? It currently lives on the side of the Tees, the Yorkshire side. I said it is both Yorkshire and Teesside, it is possible. Part of Teesside is in Yorkshire part in Durham. Then again, I am sure you realise that, it maybe just might not suit your view thats all.

I was born in North Tees, 1969. Says Co Durham on my birth certificate but I don't see myself as being from Durham. I don't think Stockton folk do, in general.
Well apparently you are, so that's that! Welcome to the immovable logic of Yorkshiremen.

I was born in Guisborough, and kind of always assumed it was North Yorkshire. I just looked at my birth certificate though, and it says district: Cleveland, sub district: Guisborough and Stokesley. Hmmm.

(I guess the 'district' doesn't necessarily mean county)?

I've got Durham on my birth certificate, having been born in Robson Maternity home, so I am a Durham Lad but more importantly, I am a Teessider from the Nort East of England. We have our own identity that is different from Geordies, Mackems and Yorkshiremen
