Worst Ever Boro 11 - We have our team!

Value for money, absolutely has to be Gestede, but I don't think you can ignore how much of it was down to injuries

He was here for 3 and a half seasons, 156 league matches.
He missed nearly half of them through a constant stream of injuries, and only played in just over a third of those games in total, and only started 20.

Obviously he was poor in quite a few of the games he did manage to feature in, but I'm not sure he'd be our worst ever striker in terms of performances.

I made pretty much the same point earlier but I think the people have spoken.

Same goes for people saying Mido. He was a d*ck, unprofessional and a waste of money. But he was nowhere near our worst ever striker. For the games he could be bothered he was actually more toward the other end of the scale. Ability wise he was easily Premier League standard.

Think people are confusing waste of money and dislike of a player with ability (although Gestede was pretty bad in most games. Just not Lee Miller, Alex Niemely etc bad).

Marcus Bent - Decent career overall but was completely useless for us. Was a weird period under Strachan, when we kept bringing players in on short-term loan deals. They were never going to be committed to the cause.

Lee Miller - His goalscoring record in the Scottish leagues was poor when we signed him so you have to ask the question, why did we sign him?

Gestede - Actually had a couple of short spells where he was decent for us but his attitude was horrendous. Could have done the decent thing and signed for Millwall when they came in for him but he chose instead to stay, so he could warm our bench and continue to steal a living.

I still think Ben Roberts has been hard done to with Brad Guzan getting away with murder.

1. Ben Roberts
2. Antonio Barragan
3. Joe Bolton
4. Sean St Ledger
5. Phil Whelan
6. James Lee Siliki
7. Adam Hammill
8. Adlene Guedioura
9. Rudy Gestede
10. Lee Dong-gook
11. Victor Fischer

Bench :

Joe Lumley
Branco
Mick Saxby
Kevin Thomson
Mido
Kris Boyd

The bench to me looks like it’s missing a midfielder.. I would say Gary O’Neil completes a final 18 of the hapless and heartless.

The manager has to be Gordon Strachan.. gets my vote anyway.

Good call we will do the managers vote after wrapping up the strikers

He was a hugely underwhelming signing, but if I remember correctly I think he was subbed on during a real thumping, then either got injured after that game or during the next, so not sure he put in enough bad games to get in this team.
Got injured in his first game didn't he. Went off.

Not happy with fisher in there he was a young lad in the Premier league and suffered with injuries would much prefer walking footballer supreme Kris boyd or pally fanny Connolly
Left winger tho.. Mark Yeates, Tarmo Kink, Carlos De Pena?

I started going to games at the end of the ayresome park era. It's crazy how spoiled we were from a striker perspective. Wilko, slaven, barmby, Jan aage, rav etc. etc. Favourite boo by Beck was a 1-in-4 striker and not even our main one. Then you look at the ones in the last 10-15 years, blimey.

Gestede and Donk Hook Lee for me. 0 goals in the league for Lee from 23 appearances and general wtf from Gestede.
Ricketts close though for being out of breath at kick off every single game.

And now I want to see a list of all Boro strikers with goals/games so I can think back on some of the greats (and not so greats).

These worst lists need to have defined criteria before they are voted on
I.e cost per game or per goal or whatever

It's a bit lame to just say worst XI as you could just name the worst proffesional footballers at any level that just happened to play the odd game or 2 including
youth players etc etc
