World Cup Draw This Friday at 5pm

I do realise this but I can dream that one of the so-called 'big' nations has a bit of conscience and decides to give it a miss.
Wont happen im afraid capy, they shout & make gestures about human rights etc but will turn a blind eye to it all

So that's 29 of the 32 teams sorted.

Europe

- Germany
- Denmark
- Serbia
- Spain
- England
- France
- Belgium
- Netherlands
- Croatia
- Switzerland
- Portugal
- Poland

Still awaiting Wales v Scotland/Ukraine

South America

- Brazil
- Argentina
- Uruguay
- Ecuador

Still waiting on the 5th placed intercontinental play-off spot, that'll be decided in the next few hours.

North America

- Canada

The USA and Mexico will almost certainly follow Canada to automatic qualification after their final round of fixtures, barring an incredibly unlikely Costa Rican demolition of the USA tomorrow night.

Costa Rica will be taking the inter-confederation play-off spot to face the winner of the Oceania qualifiers.

Asia

- Qatar
- Iran
- South Korea
- Japan
- Saudi Arabia

Australia face the UAE in the Asian play-off in June before facing the South American play-off team to see who qualifies.

Africa

- Senegal
- Ghana
- Cameroon
- Tunisia
- Morocco

Oceania

The Solomon Islands face New Zealand tomorrow, the winner faces Costa Rica in June to see who qualifies.

Pot 1 (seeded teams): Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain, Portugal.
Pot 2: Mexico, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA, Croatia.
Pot 3: Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Tunisia.
Pot 4: Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine, Costa Rica/New Zealand, UAE/Australia/Peru.

There are the pots for the draw tomorrow.
Qatar will automatically be placed in Group A as host.

Each group of 4 is only allowed a maximum of 1 nation from each confederation, barring UEFA where a maximum of 2 will be allowed.

I'd like England to get Mexico, Japan and New Zealand (assuming they beat Costa Rica).

Being daft I failed to account for the fact that we can't draw Mexico and New Zealand because of the potential for two North American sides in one group if Costa Rica won that play-off.

I'll go for Ghana instead.

Why is it Europe get far more teams than any other federation? Surely South America can justify more than 5 teams for example.

There are only 10 sides in the South American confederation.

40% of South American teams are guaranteed to qualify, potentially 50% can.

There are 55 sides in UEFA, 13 can qualify, that's only 23%.

Europe gets more than the other confederations because it's where the money is and the sides are on average better.
Without trying to be too disrespectful to CAF, AFC and OFC, almost every side in them are very poor quality.

Fair enough indeed then.
