Womens World Cup 2023 in Oz and NZ

Nothing that Spain did today, absolutely nothing, was worse than what James did the the Nigerian girl in the quarters
But James was rightly sent off for it.

Today we had at least one rugby tackle and a number of others that went unpunished when I'd normally expect to see a yellow. The ref either bottled it on the big occasion or was happy to let the Spanish play that way.

The ref went to her pocket when Paralluelo kicked the ball away and then saw who it was. That is just abysmal.

I don't have a problem with game management but I do expect players to get booked when they take it too far. It's part of the game.

Spain (men and now women's team) have that knowhow and calmness when it comes to crunch moments and winning tournaments. That extra bit of technical ability and consistently being able to unlock our defence made the difference.
It's easy to blame xyz when you lose a game but ultimately we came up short.

Here's a belter and I don't know if its true so don't shoot me. But I've read several times today that someone (either government or royalty wise) actually banned the BBC and ITV from showing any sign of the Spanish royal family who attended the match today

One of the very few things the floppy haired one was vaguely honest about. Unlike his public school posh boy predecessors Cameron and Blair, or this idiot, he didn’t make demonstrably implausible claims about his love for the working man’s version of football.

We are to blame for this though because we simply do not allow our politicians to say “not my game mate” about this. Despite the fact that they’d in reality be representing a massive chunk of the electorate if they did.

Nah that’s not true. They specifically mentioned and showed pictures of the Spanish Queen.

Really sad news. RIP. She was excellent yesterday too

Magnificent weekend in Sydney. Great atmosphere at Stadium Australia. Wanted England to win but they gave it absolutely everything but Spain were class.

On to 2027 although we dont know where they will be hosted yet.

Got to be an opportunity to bring it back here surely. It’s been far east three times with Australia and China, the us has hosted 3 times I think. France and Germany have had it. If they want the crowds then England or UK would be perfect

Not bidding for it. The 4 bids are from. Belgium/Holland, Mexico/USA, Brazil and South Africa. Decision will be made next May.

For anyone who enjoyed the World Cup and wants some more top level women's football to watch, the NWSL is free to watch at https://watch.nwslsoccer.com/home. As poor as the American's were in the World Cup, I've never seen a bad NWSL game, and Angel City FC have a lot of funding to bring top players over. England player Ebony Salmon (has played in a few qualifiers but didn't get in the WC squad) plays for Houston Dash and former England defender Casey Stoney manages San Diego Wave, who made the semi finals of the Play Offs last year.

Personally, I think it's a more balanced league than the WSL, where there's a real gap between the top teams (Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal) and the rest of the sides in the league. Plus, the season is already up and running with a few games coming up this weekend.
