Womens World Cup 2023 in Oz and NZ

We’d have been better playing 5 at the back and 5 up top and just doing away with the idea of having a midfield at all

So many misplaced passes and being caught moving the ball too slowly

Should definitely put to bed the weird idea that some people parrot that the women's matches don't involve diving and cynicism.

The Spanish have been awful for it today, faking injury after injury.
I can't say I have watched every game in this World Cup but Spain are the first team I have seen using the "Dark Arts".

Such a shame, they were the better team and deserved to win. Referee didn't help should have sent off the lass with the long braids for kicking the ball away and she did it a couple of times not just once.

I think if we had scored first we'd have won, just one of those things pretty evenly matched teams and one gets the break. Our girls done great credit to the shirt, etc.

I do think it's funny that England lost fewer matches than Spain at the tournament and that the Spanish hate their manager and most of their best players weren't even called up.

You're going to be gutted if you're one of the 12 players who called for him to be sacked and missed out on this tournament as a result.

Midfield were not as athletic as the Spanish. We lost our midfield one to one battles, caught flat footed and didn’t release the ball quick enough. Our attacks broke down in there. James will add a bit more physicality in there over the next 10 years though

Watched it as i will watch England play tiddlywinks. Thought they were awful. Watched the semi also where I thought they looked good but to be honest I don't really care

Walsh picking up an injury early on in the tournament and Stanway just not being nearly as good as she can be made a huge difference, along with the sending off of James which will have mucked up the plans.

The ref let Spain get away with an awful lot today that a stricter ref would have penalised and probably got cards out for - the rugby tackle in the second half and the kicking the ball away for starters - again, why have VAR if you aren't going to bother applying the rules that are easy to apply..?

Spain were by far the better side in the first half and England didn't do enough second half.

Anyone watching that Spanish passing and saying the women's game isn't any good is just trolling now. The 'cheating' at the end spoiled it but we keep being reminded in the political threads that winning is more important than how you win - don't agree with it myself but that seems to be the modern consensus.

Thought Mary Earps was England's best player through the tournament.

One of the best things from this World Cup has been how many strong goalkeeping performances there have been, especially when that's been one of the areas most criticised when it comes to the quality of the women's game.

She didnt have a foot on or behind the line but justice was served
The Laws actually say "at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the line." "In line with" includes having the foot above the line. Her back foot was judged to have been above the line and in line with it - otherwise VAR would have ordered it retaken (as they did with other penalties in the competion).

Rule 14
When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line.

That form of wording with the word "or" in it means (in long form) "either touching, or in line with, or behind, the goal line."

And incidentally, "in line with" includes having the foot above the line.

Thats womens football done now the cheating has crept in.

The ref bought everything. Surprise surprise the land of Sergio Ramos has been the nation that has adopted diving, cynical time wasting, feigning of injury - at one point they had 3 players down then committed a cynical foul to stop England capitalising, no yellow card though.

It's always been there.

Vamos Espana !!

Lots of bitter and twisted people on this thread who would have been praising the English for "game management" if it was the other way round .... and it would have been.

Nothing that Spain did today, absolutely nothing, was worse than what James did the the Nigerian girl in the quarters
