The transfer window rumours will be dominated by the letter 'A' - Amad Diallo, Chubba Akpom, Aaron Ramsey, Ali Al-Hamadi

Another barrier to overome is the tv gods in the sky want a chelsea vs liverpool clash in the final. Call me suspicioys

It’s a one off game. We have an advantage. Anything could happen…

Exciting whatever the outcome.

I‘d love to have a new uncup-tied striker going into the game.

the sky tv bods want chelsea vs liverpool.. the football gods want boro vs liverpool

that semi final in 2014..

Penalty saved! Raheem Sterling (Liverpool) fails to capitalise on this great opportunity, right footed shot saved in the bottom left corner.

Man City v West Ham?
9-0 agg?

That is correct, the place goes to an extra league position.
The FA Cup runners-up qualify for Europe in that situation but not the LC runners-up.

It is a throwback to the days when the FA Cup winners qualified for the Cup Winners Cup.
If the winners also won the league, then they qualified for the European Cup instead, and the Cup Winners Cup place went to the FA Cup runners up. Which made more sense than giving it to 5th place in the league.
It used to be (in order of competition ranking);
Champions = European Cup
FA Cup Winners = Cup Winners Cup
2nd, 3rd, 4th = Uefa Cup
LC Winners = Uefa Cup (from 1973)
LC Winners = InterCity Fairs Cup (67-72)

The following clubs missed out with the league cup having different rule (including ourselves where the winners had already qualified for Europe)

1993 Sheff W
1995 Bolton
1996 Leeds
1998 boro
2001 Birmingham
2006 Wigan
2009 Spurs
2012 Cardiff * Lpool reached FA Cup Final
2014 Sunderland
2016 Liverpool (didnt qual for europe)
2017 Southampton
2020 Aston Villa

Some unfashionable clubs there, including ourselves who could have had a european run a few years sooner

Sadly i can see us being defensively brilliant for most of the night and then we’ll gift them a goal with a poor back pass or something, then the wheels come off

It’s a huge ask.. but we’ve got nothing to lose. Championship team with the upper hand in a league cup semi final.

Always good to dream but we’ve already given a good account of ourselves on and off the pitch. One game away from Wembley is a dream for most fans and players alike… plus they have massive resources, premier league experience, home advantage.. etc etc etc
