Will Tory @#×@ get the message from voters ?

Now I don't know if what I have said is true, but if you are prepared to listen to what he says disspassionately with a view on winning an election it could very well be true.

I'm not sure what you mean about listening dispassionately. Have I given an impression that I get all animated when Starmer speaks? From my perspective, I'm one of the few on here who ever actually pay attention to the words he says. Most of his centrist supporters just concoct a fantasy version of what they think he must have meant.

It's pointless making these arguments on here because whilst many will agree with me their are a vocal handful that will hijack the thread and off we go again.
It's just pointless arguing with folks who are not prepared to soften their approach and actually listen.

Suit yourself. To me it's a little bit arrogant to think conversations are only worth having if in the end everyone agrees with you, and anyone who disagrees is "hijacking" the thread.

They dont have to agree with me Stu. They have to be able to agree when the evidence supports something in an obvious way. An example in our exchange is you suggesting that Starmer didn't cause the downfall of Johnson.

In more extreme examples from other posters "If anyone else was in charge Labour would be 40 points clear in the polls" or, worse still "Kier Jong Un".

As I have said, this isn't an attack on you or any other posters. You are entitled to your opinions. I haven't heard any real evidence that Labour are now tory lite, for example. Bumface would say that Starmer refusing to rollback the 2 kid allowance limit is an example. It isn't an example and obviously so. The minute Starmer say Labour will reverse it, the next question is "Where is the money coming from?". Whilst I think that policy is worth borrowing for, the press would crucify Labour, give tories something to fasten on to to crticize Starmer and Labour as crap with the economy. It doesn't matter what history shows, most of the electorate don't understand the basics of economics and won't bother to learn either.

Starmer will be as far left as:
a) we can "demonstrably" afford
b) the electorate will accept it
c) media outlets can't critisize

Once in power, as things start to improve, he has a sounder footing to make more changes. People will base their opinion of the party in government, based on how it hits their pocket. If you are in opposition the way the elctorate measure a party is based on media outlets coverage.

The evidence is in my posts. The anger at Boris is the fact that he had those parties during lockdown. Not that he lied to Starmer about them. If he hadn't had the parties, he wouldn't have needed to lie about them. I said Starmer got lucky with that and I stand by it. There was no signs Labour would be surging 20/30% ahead in the polls before that.

None of that stops it being a perfectly valid example of the party being tory lite. They're literally adopting a tory policy. Whether they adopt it because they're true blue believers in punishing the poor until they lift themselves up by their bootstraps, or whether they adopt it because they're scared of press scrutiny, the outcome is the same. Whichever party voters choose to vote for in an election they will get the tory policy.

Why's that then Newy, because he's a gay young man?

I just wonder how he managed to persuade so many constituents to vote for him 🤷‍♂️

Out of order that. I don't recall Newy ever saying anything remotely homophobic on here. He's an excellent poster, doesn't deserve that sort of bad faith assumption being made about him.

Straight out of uni into politics.. no experience of anything other than being Wes Streeting’s researcher. Another career politician who comes across as a total creep and lacks empathy.
So what? First of all you called him a creep now you say he comes across as a creep. What exactly do you mean? Come on, have the courage of your convictions and spit it out. You're not normally shy.

Well he should say exactly what he means. He's called a young gay man a creep. A word with negative and seedy connotations. He's had two opportunities to explain his comments but hasn't managed it yet. You know, it might be that he just doesn't like it that Labour has succeeded in that seat but just say so instead of passing judgement on somebody he's never met.

I'll leave you to your own thoughts Stu. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Nice to know you have exactly the same opinion as Johnny Mercer has, although he didn't call the lad a creep.

Nice to see that the needless name has been removed from the post headline , no need to be calling anybody that on a forum , yet it seems to be the norm on here .

So you can call a party you despise and hate sc#m , but I can't.
To be honest I hate both of them .
As for net zero , do you honestly think if we get to net zero it will save the planet .
When China, Russia and India don't give a flying f#ck.

Rise above it or you are just as bad as the rest.

I honestly think we can get to net zero and in doing so boost the economy AND make people better off. If we can do that, be ahead of the curve, we will be in a great position moving forward when oil starts running out.

In our history we have been world leaders. Always at the head of the race for industry, science and innovation. I don’t see why, because China, Russia & India don’t care, we shouldn’t be bothered either. This is a massive opportunity and I feel we would be silly to give it up.

Ooh, why would you call me that?
Come on, wondering why you are calling someone you don't know a creep.
I am of the opinion that he is a creep.. I don’t like the lad. Why would you insinuate I was homophobic? You are coming across as thick.. that may well be intentional, maybe you’re looking for a bite or on the wind up.. no idea.
You might just be thick.
you want to back ANOTHER over privileged oxford graduate who has been fast tracked into politics and will get payed extravagant ammounts of money for doing almost nothing.. worse still he is supporting political
Ideals that are not representative for the vast majority of people, they causes harm and push us backwards as a society.

I don’t like Kier Starmer.. does that make me a racist or a right wing lunatic or a gammon? Would I want Labour to succeed over the Conservatives? Would that make me a rabid leftist anti semite ?

No, no, no and no

I think you need to calm down fella, you doth protest too much. Nowhere have I stated or inferred that you are homophobic so wind your neck in. You just don't enjoy Labour succeeding at anything.Screenshot_20230722_164717_Samsung Internet.jpg
