Why start Greenwood? aka the invisible man!

I didn't think he was brilliant today but he is an impact player, if he doesn't score/assist he looks a bit anonymous. I don't think you can criticise his workrate, I can't see Carrick standing for it if he wasn't working hard. Just hasn't really clicked in the second half of the season. I said in another thread though if he was one of our young players (similar age to Pharrel Willis, Josh Coburn) and he'd had a breakthrough season like this we'd look at it a bit differently. He wasn't remotely the finished article when he came here and he isn't now either.

I watched him closely today and his work rate was very poor, spent most of the game strolling about and watching when we were under pressure!
 
He's only in the side because of the huge number of injuries elsewhere. But Silvera should probably be playing instead.
 
No, no. You’re wrong. You have to trust the senior players like Greenwood to play every week because they’ve helped us to scale the dizzy heights of 10th in the second division. You couldn’t possibly start someone like Gilbert or Willis ahead of someone who’s barely done anything of note this side of Christmas. Are you mad? The season must be entirely extinguished, finished, dead in the water, before you change your thinking.
 
I’ve been reluctant to criticise Greenwood, as he has ability, but he was so ineffective yesterday.

Senior players like Greenwood?
 
He is just not good enough, papered over the cracks early on with some important goals. But even they have dried up now, and when he is not making goal contributions he offers FA. It seems Carrick probably doesn't think Gilbert is up to it due to his lack of game time. But I'd probably time to stick him in for the last few games if anything you know he will give 110% to try and make an impression and he came on yesterday and got the assist.

Gilbert hasn’t had a lot of minutes but when he’s come on he’s always put a shift in, unfortunately for him it’s generally when we’ve been behind and the opposition have stuck 10 behind the ball. Hopefully he’s gained some confidence from yesterday and can have a run in the team for a few games now, then we can see is he can be good enough for the squad for next season or if we need to loan him out for a year.

He’s been playing in the first team all season. He’s 22, not 18 or 19. He has talent but he has very rarely shown it for us, certainly since Christmas. As said above, he doesn’t really offer Engel any protection either so if he’s not making or scoring goals then what exactly is he offering? He’s been coasting for ages.

Silvera wouldn't have got through 90 mins after flying back from Aus and don't give me Gilbert....... his first contribution yesterday, he will be gone in the summer.
