Why did we sit on a 2-1 lead against 10 men?

I am delighted that we won....over the moon..... Sitting on a one goal lead is never a good thing even against 11 men. You end up losing momentum, encouraging the opposition and the defence starts to get nervy. How may times has it backfired on us over the years. Given that they were down to 10 men it just seemed like a bad tactic. It's a valid point. I don't understand some of the reactions.

I understand the point you make and Boro have suffered lots of late goals over the years.

What if Boro went gung ho and got caught on the break instead though? It would then be a case of why didn’t we manage the game better?

I think it’s hard to turn around 20 years of holding on to the lead and don’t go for the kill, it’s a big mentality to shift for the club it seems. The same as the keeper playing out from the back giving half the crowd the **** twitches

I understand the OPs point, but I thought we managed the game very well. Slightly disappointed we didn't show a little more of a cutting edge, but much more important not to give Blackburn silly chances. Couple of openings for them, possibly/probably should have done a lot better......but hey ho they didn't.

File it under "3 points, job done" 👍

It was weird because it wasn't that we weren't creating chances. We had some dangerous breaks where we had 3 on 3 or better and instead of trying to score it was like we deliberately slowed it down and were prioritising the corner instead of trying to score. That was from about 70mins. Fine doing that with a few mins to go but not nearly half an hour. An extra goal would've made things much more comfortable and it didn't need us to throw men forwards, they were already there. Other times we just randomly hoofed it to nobody so I couldn't tell if there were strict instructions to keep the ball or not.

Don't think it's overly critical to ask why we stopped wanting to score. Don't think anyone is accusing us of parking the bus.

Their goal was a long punt over the top, over commit and ten men or not that could happen again.

Rather keep the ball, keep recycling possesion and make them work than give it back to them and give them an option to launch it. They are a physically big team, hence rCooks playing from the start. 10v11 is irrelevant when its lumped into the mixer, we needed to reduce that happening, and we did.

The thing about keeping the ball, we’re not just killing time; we’re making them run. We were dragging them across the pitch time and again, the attackers dropping in and pulling their defenders about. It’s knackering to be chasing and concentrating like that with ten men. When Blackburn did get it back they had no energy or power to create anything.

I thought we closed it out well. A couple of minor scares but that’s inevitable when you’re away to the 3rd-placed team in the league. A job well done IMO.

This. We are not the finished article by a long chalk. This same team struggled to get out of the bottom half earlier in the season and because Michael C has instilled a winning mentality it seems some now expect us to be winning every game with ease. We will lose games this season.

Gaining victories over promotion rivals is something to be celebrated and critiscism that we should have won by more seems, well, rather churlish.

I wish the mentality of some of our fans would change.
