Who was the most disappointing signing we’ve had

Emerson ... because we saw his skills early doors and it faded away, most of the others mentioned just didnt do it at all from the beginning.....

Funnily enough, it was Kris Boyd for me.

I genuinely thought we had a cracking striker on our hands when we first signed him, having seen his record in the SPL.

Although I've never held the SPL in high regard, it's safe to say I quickly realised how pathetic and poor the SPL really is.

Look, I loved him, but… Talent and previous performances vs what we got out of him, Mendieta?

He really was far and away one of the best midfielders in Europe. Couldn’t believe it when we signed him on a free for four years, gobsmacking.

Imperious in a few games and really good for a couple of seasons, but was very disappointing the way his career fizzled out with us.

was the fizzle more due to the fact that if he played X amount of games he was due a massive bonus so he was quietly dropped out of the squad. i could believe that now after what happened with downing

Brenda was alright. Lovely left foot but, as we all know, couldn't tackle a dinner.
he certainly tackled like a Brenda. Came with a lot of hope as he was a regular U21 for Ipswich, and that was in the days when there were a lot less U21 players and they tended to largely go on to have great top flight careers.

Just checked his wiki, he left us at 25, and only played another 119 league games at Man City and Oldham. Then in 97 he was ahead of the trend of winding down careers in china and australia.

Got a bad knee injury or something and was never quite the same after I think?

Mendieta was done when he got to us. I have no doubt Gibson froze him out from a payments perspective, but he was so far off what he was at Valencia it was stunning.
Alves was miles off expectations.
Branco was fatter than me when he rocked up.
What a mess of a man Mido was and a massive disappointment.
I thought Boyd would score loads, but he was awful.
Assombolonga was a huge disappointment, then a massive liability.
Karembeu wouldn't get near a current French squad, I can't quite believe he was at Real Madrid, he was awful.

I have to agree re Ayresome with Nobby, Davenport was a seismic disappointment.

Yeah, injuries. I think he played more games in his loan season than in the rest of his Boro career. Such a shame, world class is thrown about nowadays but man he was seriously world class when he was at his peak, brilliant guy and such a classy player to watch when he was on song.

Jordan Rhodes? Thought we’d signed a proper goal machine.

Davenport. Definitely.
He was top drawer at Forest but a failure at Man Utd. The general consensus for that being they didnt play to his strengths.
However it was obvious we would be a perfect fit. We were the 'New Forest'.
Everyone - fans, pundits, me dad, me gran, me dad's barber, me grans hairdresser, Terry from Winchester - knew he was the missing link who would guarantee a top 6 finish.
Turns out he was sh1te after all.
