Who is the best Dutch player to have played for Boro?

We never won when Boateng was injured. Many of his performances during our European runs were outstanding. For me, he is probably our best Dutch player,

JFH, Boateng and Zenden were all top class.

De Roon - well no one looked good in that awful season he was here. He was probably one of our better players that season.

Loved Otto but Jimmy was a sublime striker, even in his advancing years. Loved Zenden too. He offered great balance to that midfield.

No De Roon mentions so far.

The question was who was the best Dutch player to have played for the Boro, not who is the best Dutch cross country runner to have appeared in Middlesbrough.

I'm not saying he's a bad player as he's had success elsewhere, but for me it just didn't seem to work for him here.

For me it's got to be Boateng for sheer consistency. However, as others have mentioned already JFH kicked a ball like an angry mule with an electrified cattle prod up it's backside. I reckon without the South Stand in the way he could have easily tw@tted the ball off the clock tower over North Ormseby. When he hit a ball it stayed hit!

Good question as there’s been some good ones, poss on paper reizigger.

but for us I’d go Jimmy as well

In terms of 'on the eye' I guess most will say JFH or Zenden.

The one for me though is George Boateng. He was an absolute rolls Royce of a defensive CM. He was a nailed on 8-10 every week but his job in that side packed with flare almost went unnoticed.

The results would almost change for the worse overnight when he was out. Then pick up as soon as he was back.

He wasn't 'spectacular' but my god did he do that defensive roll well👍

Oh and a shoutout for Yanic Wildschut....ok this is in jest. It's more for his debut at Rotherham. I've never seen anyone so impressive for 75mins and turnout cack😂

George for me. I never thought we'd lose a game he was playing in. Only Souness had made me think that way before.

Otto
Boateng
JFH
Zenden

Reiziger should have been good as he was a quality full back in his day but it didn’t work out For him here for whatever reason.

I hold up my hands and say I wasn’t a fan of De Roon, thought he was a slightly better version of Gary O’Neil (who was utter kak), but there’s no doubt he’s done well elsewhere in his career so fair play to him.

Marv had his purple patch but was poor for the most part.

From memory we withdrew a contact extension to Paul Ince and bought George from Aston Boro who were a feeder club to us at one point! Ugo, Southgate, George and erm Alan Wright.

Boateng is the best ball winner I've seen. Incredible engine and his ability to just take the ball off players was unreal. Didn't give away many fouls either. It felt like when he wasn't playing no-one else in the team knew how to tackle. We just couldn't get the ball back off the opposition.

No mug with the ball at his feet either. Ok he wasn't spraying pinpoint passes everywhere but really strong, hard to knock off the ball and usually picked the right option. His technique was a bit unorthodox (although effective) as he came to the game a bit late I think. I wonder if that, (and who he played for) went against him a bit when it came to winning more caps. Far better than Nigel De Jong in that position IMO.

I loved Heine Otto and if the question was which Dutch player had the biggest gap in ability to the rest of his team he played with then Otto would win hands down. But as for who was the best Dutch footballer the Boro had that has to be Hasselbaink for me. Even though he was coming towards the end of his career with us, he was still supurb. I dont think the forward line of Viduka, Hasselbaink and Yakubu will be bettered in my lifetime.
