Grew up in Hurworth, was great in the 80s, but not sure recent development has been kind. Blackwell was nice too and going out that way you have High Coniscliffe, Piercebridge and Gainford, all proper villages.

It's nice and convenient for the hospital too!

I have been pleasantly surprised by the town, moved here to rent a friend's flat in September. The West side is pretty nice and there are plenty of nice cafes, independent shops and the like.
