Where has the money gone Steve?

Jm...those names and numbers made me throw up my hot shot parno...thanks...
That is a terrible list...no wonder he's being prudent when you thibk about it
Not so sure I can agree with that, apart from Payero and possibly Braithwaite any football fan could see the rest of those players are worth nowhere near the amount we paid for them. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be reinvesting player sales if we have any serious ambitions of going up

I’m glad they’ve learnt lessons.

I’m sure we’ll make a profit on Hoppe & Forss.

Also we don’t have to replace all these loan players next summer do we?
Just Steffan, Giles, Mowatt and Munez to replace again in the summer. 4 starters out of 11 we will loose at the end of the season so another full scale rebuild once again. No lessons learned from last season.

Either build a squad that will be consistent for a few years to build towards a promotion push or go for broke and get the players you want now including loans to give you the best chance of promotion this season. Once again we have a mix of the two, no real strategy and if we don’t get promoted (which we likely won’t) then it’s another costly rebuild next summer which the club clearly can’t afford

No lessons learned, just repeating the same mistakes

That's the issue, bringing in loans but not covering midfield. Have no issue Gibson taking money out. He's owed it. But all this half arsed splashing the cash drives me mad

Probably just Munez and Giles to be replaced, though they look like 2 of our best players at the minute

Yet the same people who identified and signed those expensive failures are still identifying and signing players now.

We brought in Keiran Scott, yet nearly every player we’ve managed to sign were told the club have been chasing since before him and CW arrived.

Exactly this. I don’t get why the ostriches call this reality bed wetting.

That's the problem with loans especially good ones the squad needs to match them and get promoted otherwise it's back to the drawing board

Tavernier pays for our Transfer business.. we have a stonger squad than last season.

Spence & Others go some way to cover ongoing costs and pay off debts. FFP doesn’t just mean spend every season. We have to recoup some costs.

It’s a tight league!

Close to 30 million with the Spence/Tav sales plus plenty more cleared in wages and we have seen a fraction reinvested when the squad is clearly lacking in so many areas. Are we happy to consolidate in the championship every year and sell our best players without replacing them?
Close to 30m? Nope.

Possibly the reason we have so much debt is because he has made so many mistakes over the years. Numerous poor managerial appointments where a huge overhaul is required almost every summer don’t exactly come cheap. Just how many players have we made a profit on over the last few years?

You just need to look at our top signings recently to see why the club is apparently skint

Assombalonga 15 million
Rhodes 10 million
Braithwaite 10 million
Flint 7 million
Saville 7 million
Fletcher 7 million
Gestede 7 million
Payero 6 million

Around 70 million worth of transfer fees on 8 players alone plus huge wages that we would be lucky if we got back 15/20 million on them. When you add in poor managerial appointments for almost every manager over the last 15 years you soon realise it’s not a sustainable way to run a club
I don't think all of those are mistakes, especially not the most expensive ones, Rhodes, Assombalonga and Braithwaite anyway. Braithwaite got ***ed off as he was being managed by a clown, then we reverted to lump ball, we should have got a lot more out of him at this level (dubious character mind). Rhodes got some important goals and we didn't make a loss, we probably made 50-100m on being promoted. Assombalonga was scoring a goal every 200 minutes or so, which isn't bad considering what we weren't supplying him with.

Flint and Savage were ok players, but waaay too much money, and so was Fletcher eventually but then he had no contract left.

We got over 20m: Rhodes 10.5m, Braithwaite 5m, Flint 4m, Saville 2m. Lost Britt and Fletcher as we miss handled them and let them both run their contracts down, which happens to all teams I suppose. We could have easy got our money back on Fletcher (surprisingly) and maybe got a fair amount for Britt after a couple of years. Gestede wasn't worth a bean, why we bought him for the prem is a mystery, and £6m on Payero was ludicrous for an unknown, we won't be getting anything back from that.

I think the bigger problem has been the managers, going from defensive Karanka, to Monk wanting to play football but not knowing how, to lump ball Pulis (rebuilding/ clearing out), Woodgate who wasn't good enough (rebuilding/ clearing out), Warnock a bit old school (rebuilding/ clearing out), Wilder (back to football again). There's no clear identity there, so how are we meant to get the most out of players and some continuity over 3-6 years etc (which is what we should expect transfers to stay). 6 managers in 4.5 years, all with different styles/ formations and a lot of them on a recovery mission.

We still got good money in from Gibson, Tav (not enough), Traore (not enough), Spence (had their pants down), probably £60m in that lot alone.

It actuall

It actually feels like he doesn’t want to get promoted at times due to the costs involved!

His replacement was in goal the last 2 games
He won't be his replacement if Wilder stays (don't think we will or should get rid, but he won't stick around if we don't bring in what we need. Roberts needs to sort out his kicking/ distribution and chill out a little on the ball, but I bet we're working a lot on that (he won't have had to do that much previous). His shot stopping, positioning and handling look very good though, he's better than anything we had in the last few years.

I got pelters for querying what Scott’s role is regarding recruitment recently. I’m still non the wiser.

Steve and his team maybe be perfectly happy being a top half championship side, flirting with the play off positions, maybe the odd unsuccessful play off campaign and cup run, is this is settling for the owners vision of our true level?
