What happened after Testimonial Matches?

I'm a young gun and a Riverside 95 boy.... so Testimonial's were a little before my time

Did players have a Testimonial at the end of the season they were retiring? Or did some continue playing a season or so longer?

Also did Players just go into "regular life" after retirement / Testimonials? - Like plumbers, electricians, etc ?

Equally was there Testimonial's every year or just for certain players?

It's funny I was talking to a mate the other week about Robbie Mustoe's against Borussia Dortmund - I can't remember it all and god knows why I never went at the time. Stephen Pears's was a good laugh in the Holgate though!

Pearsy went to Liverpool after his testimonial. Was reserve keeper for them after their back up was injured in an ironing accident.

I think the club also had a testimonial for wild Mannion and George Hardwick in the 1980s, though I may be talking crap.
Im sure you are right, sure I have the programme somewhere for a joint one

Yes, Wilf and George early 80's. One I remember like yesterday was Bill Gates'. Charlton's Champions Vs Revie's Leeds, in what had been record breaking seasons for both clubs. Both sides put on a proper display with all the big names on show and sent everyone home happy with a 4-4 scoreline. Can't think of another meeting between both clubs where words like "amiable", "family friendly" and "good natured" could be used!

John Hicktons was one of my first matches. I remember Bobby Charlton playing in one of the games and 'we' put 6 past Sunderland in main match

I was shocked Bernie Slaven only got 3000 odd. I was gutted to miss it as I was away at work, but thought he'd have got more than that

Clayton Blackmore got a decent turnout. Some people said he didn't deserve it, but was really about his ManU career
I went to Chris Morris when we played Forest. We'd been promoted with forest and I joked beforehand we'd lose 5-0 - we did lose 5-0!!
