What are you realistically expecting from our League Cup run?

Already exceeded my hopes so, if I have one wish is that we play the semi at home first. If we take a whuppin at Anfield, Stamford Bridge or wherever I don't want to be traipsing along to the Riverside to watch us "try to overturn" a 4-0+ drubbing.

I expect us to go out in the next round, and I won’t say stuff like “it’s not the defeat it’s the manner of the defeat” if and when it happens.

Unless it is like double figures on aggregate or whatever.

Just hoping it’s not Fulham away 1st leg and losing by a couple of goals

2nd leg at home would be a bit of an anti-climax

I definitely can see where you’re coming from and I think mostly I agree with you….but imagine if we got a reasonable result away from home, how fantastic it would be to win the tie outright at the Riverside!
A man can dream..

A draw in the first leg, whether it's home or away, and it's absolutely all to play for.

Would be some atmosphere.

That was the case in 1998. 2-1 down but with an all important away goal.

Not sure I expected us to get through but we were 3-2 up very early in the second leg thanks to Branca/Merson.

Probably have to be honest though and say we don’t really have players of that quality this time round.

I still think we can progress with a bit of luck, Fulham and West Ham have several players at the African Cup of Nations next month so while they are still likely to be stronger than us not as much as they could be. Getting to the final I would take even if we are certs to loose, it just brings an extra bit of revenue into the club and more widespread recognition, they all add up to a stronger attempt at promotion next year.

Realistically I'm hoping to come out of retirement to help the current injury crisis and lift the trophy as club captain beating Chelsea in the final.

If I were to get carried away we would win 6-0 with me scoring a hat trick and celebrate my 3rd goal by running to the Chelsea bench and stealing Ben Roberts alice band.
