Night Manager- John Le Carre, worth a look, was a TV series a few years a go.The Starmer Project - by Oliver Eagleton
Excellent book, he has a real knack of being able to deliver concise explanations"A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson. You can understand why some people turn to religion.
I do have that. Not read it yet though.Heavier Than Heaven: The Biography of Kurt Cobain
Logen Ninefingers is a brilliant character.Start with The first Law series ( The Blade Itself, Before They Are hanged and Last argument of kings)

I'm a big fan of sword & sorcery fantasy epics (David Gemma, Robert Jordan, George Martin) . Anybody got any recommendations?
I re-read Stephen Donaldson's stuff fairly recently for the first time since I was a teenager. And Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion stuff too. Enjoyed them a lot. It's kind of stating the obvious but as you've not mentioned it "the name of the wind" is an absolute must. One of the best books of any genre I've read (although Rothfuss appears to be suffering from George Martin writer's block, we've been waiting for the last book in the trilogy for years).
Brandon Sanderson is also very good. The Stormlight Archive being his main series. It is very much an epic.
Some of the first 'fantasy' stuff I read after binging on Sci-Fi til li couldn't find anything to read in the genre in the local libraries etc. Also read Terry Brooks Shannara series, Anne McCaffrey and the Dragonquest etc stuff, and of course the later Conan books.I re-read Stephen Donaldson's stuff fairly recently for the first time since I was a teenager. Like Ken Follett, I've got his pillars if the earth series. Have to look out for that, need something to read on the plane, in 2 weeks time!!!!Fall of Giants - Ken Follet, set around and during World War 1, looking at the Ukraine problem nothing much has changed unfortunately.
What did you think of this? I've tried reading a few times and Judy found it a struggle to get going. Might try again some time soon.To the original question. SPQR by Mary Beard.
Another one from John Le Carre - Our Game.Night Manager- John Le Carre, worth a look, was a TV series a few years a go.
I’m certainly enjoying the Fall of Giants so would recommend it, apparently it’s the first of a trilogy so I will need to get the other two now..Like Ken Follett, I've got his pillars if the earth series. Have to look out for that, need something to read on the plane, in 2 weeks time!!!!

I love Le Carre books, but Jeez they do take some reading. I regularly have to backtrack or look at the character descriptions sometimes given at the start of the book. I'll probably take one on my upcoming holiday.Another one from John Le Carre - Our Game.
Read Tinker Tailer about 10 years ago and am now almost through all his books (approx 30). Got a couple left.
Thanks for that but I feel like I’ve read it in the wrong order now!4 parts to the series now. He released a Prequel to the series which is good called The Evening and the Morning in 2020
