Well Covid finally got me

And thankfully I'm feeling OK. Double jab seems to be doing the job but I did feel bloody awful earlier this week.
My post is not for any sort of sympathy but more of a warning how easy it is to pick this awful bloody virus up. As a family we have done everything to the rule book. As I was double jabbed I thought it would be OK to partake in a beer or two for the Ukraine game last Saturday, my first night out for several months. Had a cracking night but the club was packed and with the beer flowing and the goals going in we celebrated in the usual way.
Two days later, wallop, it hit me. Tested positive and now half way through the self isolation.
Speaking from experience now I'm not so sure the shackles should be completely taken off. Something just doesn't add up.
Is it herd immunity or bust?

Glad you’re starting to feel better. How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking, and when did you have your second jab?

Thanks for the warning Pauliej.
I am one of the more vulnerable ones but as I am also double jabbed I thought that meant if I did get it I would now be ok.
I get the message now. I will go back to being extra careful
I have been lucky but if I keep going as I have been that luck will run out.
So thank you for posting this and I am glad you are over the worst of it.

Tommo I'm 56 and had my 2nd jab in early June. Generally fit and well though and a non smoker so it all helps.
Smoginexile I knew I could still catch it but thought my chances were much less. I guess that isn't so with the right circumstances.
Still, I'm thankful for the double jab as we all well know it could have been a lot worse for me.

Good that you are feeling better but absolutely this should be required reading for those who think that as of 19/07/21 we will be back to "normal".

We will not.

I just hope that the idiot in charge actually listens to the advice coming from bodies like "The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges" and that we should "remain cautious, taking measures such as wearing face coverings in crowded indoor spaces"

The sensible thing seems to me to retain mask wearing on public transport and in shops as a minimum requirement. Too many people are hearing Johnson say "we should take personal responsibility" as "do what you want".

Don’t want to steal your post Paulie but I’m in the same boat as you except just one jab, tested positive today after a negative test on Wednesday despite that being the worst day (so far) for me. I’m relatively young, so surprised how much it knocked me off my feet, it ruined the Denmark match for me as I could barely stay concentrated to watch it. Felt like I’d been ran over twice.

I’m thinking the same RE the Ukraine match, as to where I must have caught it from.

One of my friends has it and he went into a club and now said he didnt feel to well but didnt think anything of it. He also has had no jabs. Plonker

I think one of the problems is that you are infectious a couple of days before the symptoms. So you can spread it without realising.
Anyway hope you fully recover soon.
Don't see you posting much on this new site. You were one of the regulars on the old site if I recall.

Glad that recoveries are taking place.

I am very pleased I live in Spain. Where restrictions have been lessening a little.

The case rate is going up again and the regional governments are considering tightening the rules again.

No wonder it is suggested that the delta variant should be renamed the Johnson variant in the UK.

Glad you are picking up and feeling better. It’s a sobering warning for us all to stay vigilant. My dad and my partner are in the vulnerable group and we are being shuttled back into work. It’s scaring me sh******!!! If I get it, they get it.

I tested positive yesterday. Mate of mine tested positive on Tuesday so I tested every day after that, 3 negative tests Tue, Wed, Thurs and then positive Friday. Feels like a bad cold. I’m 40 and single jabbed

Glad you have got lucky and have had a good outcome.

It just seems to me that the powers that be want people to get it. The schools break up next Friday and the following Monday all restrictions are lifted. Packed out events like football, tennis and horse racing, not to mention pubs and restaurants up and down the country basicslly being a free for all. All this while cases are massively on the rise, it doesn’t make sense. They’ve been saying for a few weeks that they’re expecting 100,000 cases per day in the near future. It could be a very fine line for the hospitals being swamped again. It’s a big risk to take, and one that doesn’t add up.

I‘m double jabbed, my wife has had one, but it feels like it’s just a matter of time before we and the kids all have it. We’ve been so careful over the last year or so, but it now just feels like it’s a case of when not if.

Hope you’re all feeling better soon 👍🏻

I was at York races yesterday in a box so it was relatively safe. We got the bus back into town afterwards and it was outrageous. Completely rammed, less than half wearing masks and the unmasked half of the bus banging on windows screaming footy songs. Astonished my test this morning came back negative.

I tested positive a few days ago as well having spent last Saturday night in a pub.

The headaches are probably the worst I've ever experienced and I've had a couple of rough days.

Its not only the illness that you've got to contend with, its the isolation and the isolation that all your friends and family have to do who you've been in contact with.

I know life has to go on but when it directly affects you then the trip to the pub doesn't seem worth it anymore.
